00:11 <epsy> zmanuel, i don't know what to precise
00:12 <zmanuel> The exact command line, for example.
00:12 <epsy> duudii, armagetronad-dedicated --version
00:12 <epsy> duudii, ping :)
00:12 <zmanuel> The version shouldn't matter as long as it's >= 0.2.8, the system hasn't changed.
00:13 <epsy> ok
00:13 <epsy> except for sighup ;)
00:13 <duudii> hay sorry was looking elsewhere :P
00:13 <duudii> i'll get back to you after some testing

15:06 -!- zmanuel is now known as z-man
15:07 <pippijn> hi z-man
15:07 <pippijn> I started working on a set of C++ syntax extensions
15:07 <z-man> epsy: actually, it should work.
15:08 <pippijn> with perl-like pattern matching
15:08 * z-man doesn't know perl
15:08 <pippijn> list literals, tuple literals and refcounting
15:08 <pippijn> it looks like this:
15:08 <pippijn> match (string) {
15:08 <pippijn> /regexp/ : { code }
15:09 <pippijn> | /moo.*/ : { code2 }
15:09 <pippijn> }
15:09 <z-man> ah, so string sort-of-switch statements.
15:09 <pippijn> yes
15:09 <pippijn> using regex->nfa->dfa algorithms
15:09 <pippijn> so regexes are compiled at compile time
15:09 <pippijn> not at runtime
15:10 <pippijn> also you can define datatypes with a 'refcounted' flag
15:10 <epsy> z-man, oh, and suspension of players happen after the 'wait for external script' delay, right?
15:11 <pippijn> and any use of the type is transparent
15:11 -!- torres [n=torres@pD9E9D43C.dip.t-dialin.net] has joined #armagetron
15:11 <z-man> epsy: it happens in the next round.
15:12 <pippijn> it will also have native support for "delegates"
15:12 <z-man> I think before AND after everytime.cfg is loaded.
15:12 * z-man doesn't quite see the use of arbitrary refcounted types
15:12 <epsy> z-man, say, i suspend players during the 'wait for external script' delay, they will get suspended before the next round starts, right?
15:12 <epsy> ah
15:13 <z-man> epsy: I hope, you'll need to try it.
15:13 <epsy> heh
15:13 <epsy> hm, i need a way to suspend them without throwing a shitload of messages to everyone :/
15:14 <pippijn> certain datatypes are always refcounted, because managing its memory may be nontrivial
15:14 <z-man> Ah, no, I was wrong, suspension only works at one point, directly before game objects are spawend. Which is the right point :)
15:14 <pippijn> it's mainly a testbed for algorithms and ideas :-)
15:14 <pippijn> not necessarily for production
15:14 <epsy> phew :)
15:14 <z-man> Ah,ok, then it's interesting :)
15:15 <epsy> ROUND_SCORE in ladderlog only happens for players, not for teams?
15:15 <z-man> Yes.
15:15 <z-man> BUG?
15:15 <epsy> hm..
15:15 * epsy wanted one for teams
15:15 <epsy> wait..
15:15 <epsy> ROUND_SCORE 30 ~|ds|~_plage team_blue 750
15:16 <epsy> here, 750 is the team score?
15:16 <z-man> Oh, yeah :)
15:16 <z-man> But it's the total score, not the score difference in this round.
15:17 <epsy> perfect, /me goes kill bugfarm elimination
15:19 <z-man> Aha, the team score was added by wrtl
15:19 * z-man slaps wrtlprnft
15:27 <wrtlprnft> wah, back from inzell
15:27 <wrtlprnft> team score?
15:28 <wrtlprnft> #later tell durka* sort of. It's using the same database as serverlist.xml, so it should always display the same information
15:28 <armabot> wrtlprnft: The operation succeeded.

15:30 <pippijn> on xinutec
15:30 <z-man> yeah, bugfarmer spams IRC with game updates of the bugfarm servers.
15:31 <wrtlprnft> /join #armagetron-servers?
15:31 <z-man> yep.
15:31 <wrtlprnft> join #armagetron-servers
15:31 <wrtlprnft> #join #armagetron-servers
15:32 <wrtlprnft> z-man: what team score did I add?
15:33 <z-man> in ePlayerNetID::LogScoreDifference
15:33 <z-man> ret << " " << FilterName( currentTeam->Name() ) << " " << currentTeam->Score();
15:33 <z-man> bzr blame says it's yours :)
15:34 <z-man> It's not totally useless, but the score that is logged for the player is what he accumulated in this round.
15:35 <wrtlprnft> z-man: heh, i took that from armahacktron
15:35 <z-man> Aha! Blame passing :)
15:36 <wrtlprnft> :D

17:54 <wrtlprnft> it doesn't even compile, probably
17:54 <pippijn> philippeqc: appell?
17:55 <philippeqc> no, I mean that have a max and min value property, and will bound the equation in them irrelevantly
17:55 <epsy> wrtlprnft, that's what you get for asking that to someone who never touched C++ :þ
17:55 <wrtlprnft> meh.
17:55 <philippeqc> hard clamping
17:55 <philippeqc> rather than clamped as "converging toward a value"
17:56 <wrtlprnft> epsy: what about the COMMENCING_ROUND or whatever?
17:56 <pippijn> philippeqc: what mathematical basis do you use for this?
17:56 <epsy> wrtlprnft, didn't do this one
17:56 <pippijn> philippeqc: and what are you going to use it for?
17:56 <philippeqc> none
17:57 <philippeqc> and it is for the monitor (zone v2 construct), that have a min max range. I use polynomial to allow for dead recconing, but some automatic boundaries must be enforced
17:58 <pippijn> hm..
17:58 <philippeqc> it means that the polynomial object evolves over time to respect its boundaries
18:04 <philippeqc> you dont seem convinced
18:04 <pippijn> I don't understand the theory behind it
18:05 <philippeqc> no theory
18:05 <philippeqc> just application
18:05 <pippijn> you must have some ideas, though
18:05 <pippijn> and that's the theory
18:05 <philippeqc> imagine a forteress type zone. Just not connected with "win on conquest"
18:05 <pippijn> okay
18:05 <philippeqc> you can make its value go from 0 to 1
18:06 <philippeqc> and back by leaving it
18:06 <philippeqc> connect the value of the zone with the position of another zone
18:07 <philippeqc> lets say this second zone will move along x, from 0 to 100 (value of the monitor*100)
18:07 <philippeqc> just recall that the monitor is an object that control the logic of the value of the fortress like zone
18:08 <philippeqc> so when you hop in the fortress, lets say that the monitor will grow at 0.25 / sec
18:08 <philippeqc> in 4 sec you get it to its max
18:08 <armabot> armagetronad: wrtlprnft * r8296 /armagetronad/branches/0.2.8/armagetronad/ (5 files in 4 dirs): Added WAIT_FOR_EXTERNAL_SCRIPT, a feature found in armahacktron that facilitates stdio scripting. Thanks epsy for isolating it from the rest of armahacktron
18:09 <philippeqc> the moving zone will move at 0.25*100/sec too
18:09 <wrtlprnft> epsy: rebuilding the binary, should be done soon

18:10 * pippijn is interested
18:11 <epsy> hm
18:11 <wrtlprnft> done.
18:11 <philippeqc> well, you want the monitor value to stop at 1 at 4 seconds. Making the second zone stop in its motion at pos 100
18:12 <philippeqc> so the first polynomial (the monitor value) at that time will go from 0.25/sec (0 + 0.25t) to being 1 (1 + 0t) as long as you are inside
18:12 <philippeqc> does it make sense?
18:13 * epsy isn't quite sure if the timeout works properly
18:13 -!- luke-jr [n=luke-jr@68.13.109.226] has quit [Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)]
18:14 <pippijn> philippeqc: yes
18:14 <pippijn> makes sense
18:14 <philippeqc> good
18:15 <philippeqc> now the part that makes this hard, is that this example work great when all start at time 0
18:16 <philippeqc> but to represent the slope when you leave the fortress zone at time=5, and the fortress drops at a rate of -0.25/sec, you cant write (1-0.25t) as the polynomial.
18:16 <philippeqc> evaluate it at time=5, and it is already -0.25.
18:16 <philippeqc> There are many ways to deal with that.
18:17 <philippeqc> The one i choose is to move the origin to the new reference time
18:18 -!- Durka__ [n=Justin@cpe-76-167-178-153.socal.res.rr.com] has quit []
18:18 <philippeqc> this way, it IS (1 - 0.25t), except that t is now (current time - 5)
18:21 <philippeqc> while this should have been a great idea (to change the reference time) as it allows for easy manipulation of the rate of change (+ or - 0.25), it is a pita when clamping kicks in.
18:26 <wrtlprnft> epsy: why?

This is an LLM-free zone. In general, I am unwilling to use (fight with) any form of "GenAI" to write code for me. So, for the forseeable future, everything on this site will continue to be written by a very silly goose (wait that's me honk honk) with some parts written by other humans as well (silly hu-mon) rather than any plausible-series-of-words token-eating machine. Even my libraries are out of date, and suddenly that's a good thing!
(Although the style has changed several times and content has been added and changed, the base of this site has barely been updated since 2015. But it Ain't Broke!)
