00:48 <epsy> z-man, you up ?
00:49 <z-man> barely.
00:49 <epsy> i think i spotted the bug which sometimes let ppl enter in a locked server
00:49 <epsy> let's say
00:49 <z-man> Yeah, the login code only checks that the new client's ID is not bigger than MAX_CLIENTS.
00:50 <epsy> player 1 connects (client num 1)
00:50 <epsy> then player 2, 3 and 4(with their respective client nums)
00:50 <epsy> player 1 disconnects
00:50 <z-man> yep.
00:50 <epsy> player 2 log ins and seals the server, setting max_clients to 2
00:50 <epsy> now player 5 comes in
00:51 <epsy> he's attibuted client num is 1
00:51 <epsy> 1 <= 2
00:51 <epsy> basically that's it
00:51 <epsy> doesn't the server keep a client count ?
00:51 <z-man> it does, but it doesn't check it in that situation.
00:51 <epsy> like when it sends it to server-polling clients(server browser) ?
00:52 <epsy> well, i managed to reproduce it serval times
00:52 <z-man> No surprise :)
00:52 <z-man> I'll be on it.
00:52 <DrJoeTron> z-man why does defcon always look dead
00:52 <epsy> ok i'm off now

00:54 <DrJoeTron> i preordered it on steam for 10 bucks a week early :V

04:13 <rotatenow> when I start a server within the game, is there anyway to either: have a password for entry, or have the option to accept or deny users as they attempt to join
04:15 <DrJoeTron> download the dedicated server
04:15 <DrJoeTron> its less painful
04:15 <rotatenow> will do
04:15 <DrJoeTron> though password on the other hand
04:16 <DrJoeTron> i don't think is possible
04:16 <DrJoeTron> you CAN how ever make it so it doesnt show up on the master server
04:16 <DrJoeTron> which is like password protecting it
04:16 <DrJoeTron> master server(s)
04:16 <rotatenow> basically, I would like it so it is easy for friends (we are all noobs) to join, but I want only them
04:16 <rotatenow> what would be the best wya
04:17 <DrJoeTron> well lets see
04:17 <DrJoeTron> you could be a badmin
04:17 <DrJoeTron> and just kick anyone you don't know
04:17 <DrJoeTron> and then when your friends join set the player limit to just them
04:18 <DrJoeTron> max_clients #
04:18 <rotatenow> hehe, yeah tried that with the banning, would no quite work
04:18 <rotatenow> so you can set max_clients from the ingame console?
04:18 <DrJoeTron> fuck if I remember
04:18 <DrJoeTron> its best to just download the dedicated server, setup a Remote Admin password
04:18 <DrJoeTron> log into the game
04:19 <DrJoeTron> and just ban ban ban ban ban
04:19 <rotatenow> ok, dedicated is installed
04:19 <DrJoeTron> speaking of
04:19 <DrJoeTron> i need to fix my damn servers >: (
04:19 <DrJoeTron> fucking piece of shit lost everything but the actual apps
04:19 <DrJoeTron> ok, adjust your settings accordingly
04:20 <DrJoeTron> it says to put it in a different config file
04:20 <rotatenow> should I use the settings_custom.cfg in the config dir?
04:20 <DrJoeTron> i say fuck it and just edit the original
04:20 <rotatenow> yay
04:20 <DrJoeTron> settings_custom.cfg put in the admin pass
04:20 <DrJoeTron> also if you have firewall trouble
04:21 <DrJoeTron> port forward 4534
04:21 <rotatenow> so TALK_TO_MASTER 1 and what is the admin password setting
04:21 <DrJoeTron> admin_pass butts
04:21 <rotatenow> yeah, I have already had games going this afternoon
04:21 <DrJoeTron> or whatever
04:21 <DrJoeTron> haha this is the first time i've helped someone witha server in ages
04:22 <rotatenow> cheers for that
04:22 <DrJoeTron> yeah well i stopped cause i kept getting bombarded with 13 year olds going "hai hou 2 serv"
04:22 <rotatenow> and so just give me a quick rundown for when I need to change max_clients
04:23 <rotatenow> once connected ingame
04:23 <DrJoeTron> you can do it via console or in game
04:23 <DrJoeTron> you know how to use the remote admin crap/
04:23 <DrJoeTron> y/n
04:23 <rotatenow> N
04:23 <DrJoeTron> K
04:23 <rotatenow> just quickly, I have read the wiki
04:23 <DrJoeTron> to login type in the chat string /login butts(or whatever password you have)
04:24 <DrJoeTron> then everything from there on out type /admin to do anything
04:24 <rotatenow> cool
04:24 <DrJoeTron> keep in mind
04:24 <rotatenow> the unsecuredness?
04:24 <DrJoeTron> noooooo
04:24 <DrJoeTron> the stupidness of the program
04:25 <DrJoeTron> if you set the max clients to like 4
04:25 <DrJoeTron> and there is 5 people
04:25 <DrJoeTron> player 5 is exempt
04:25 <DrJoeTron> and he can stay untill he quits
04:25 <DrJoeTron> and while he is in, people between players 1-4 can just come in and outr
04:26 <rotatenow> ok, so do /admin kick Player_5
04:26 <rotatenow> first?
04:26 <DrJoeTron> not ever
04:26 <DrJoeTron> even****\
04:26 <DrJoeTron> do /players in the chat string to find their numbers
04:26 <DrJoeTron> then type /admin kick 5
04:27 <rotatenow> ah, so that is how it's done
04:27 <rotatenow> would explain why it wasn't working, and only a sweet pleeding would get them to leave
04:27 <DrJoeTron> /players also shows whos logged into RA
04:27 <DrJoeTron> Remote Admin
04:27 <rotatenow> great
04:27 <DrJoeTron> and that works in all servers, you don't have to log in for that command
04:28 <DrJoeTron> it helps to keep tabs on who is 'minning the server
04:28 <rotatenow> so are there any "better" defaults, we are all local-ish, so pings under 75
04:28 <DrJoeTron> what do you been by "defaults"
04:28 <DrJoeTron> like server settings?
04:28 <rotatenow> well, game settings
04:28 <DrJoeTron> ah
04:29 <DrJoeTron> well i play with low rubber and medium speed
04:29 <DrJoeTron> with limited turning
04:29 <DrJoeTron> you could be like the die hard 14 year olds and do HIGH SPEED HIGH RUBBER OH FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
04:29 <rotatenow> I saw those cfgs in the example folder, how can I use those at a later date
04:29 <DrJoeTron> change the name to settings_custom.cfg on then :V
04:30 <DrJoeTron> i thnik
04:30 <DrJoeTron> i never bothered with them
04:30 <rotatenow> too easy
04:30 <DrJoeTron> i just made my own
04:30 <DrJoeTron> don't take my word on that i could be totally wrong
04:30 <Lucifer> do INCLUDE examples/whatever
04:30 <DrJoeTron> yeah thanks
04:30 <DrJoeTron> GOD DAMN IT LUCIFER DON'T SHOW ME UP
04:30 <DrJoeTron> also hey
04:31 <Lucifer> he said GOD, that's worth a kick
04:31 <DrJoeTron> FUCKKKKKK
04:31 <rotatenow> ok, is there a way to make players able to turn in sharper angles, like you are going along straight and you want to move one "grid" across
04:31 <Lucifer> oh hey joe, haven't seen you in awhile
04:31 <DrJoeTron> yeah i know, i've been pretty busy/wasting time with other games
04:31 <Lucifer> sharper than 90 degrees? You mean like 80 degrees?
04:31 <DrJoeTron> you mean like OCTOTRONNNNN
04:31 <DrJoeTron> or whatever
04:32 <rotatenow> haha, well, just beable to do 2 turns quicker in succession
04:32 <DrJoeTron> or do you mean those bullshit 180 turns
04:32 <Lucifer> yeah, CYCLE_DELAY
04:32 <Lucifer> it defaults at 0.1, and is measured in seconds
04:32 <rotatenow> not quite 180, with similar effects but not as close to the orignal wall
04:32 <Lucifer> it's the minimum time between turns
04:32 <DrJoeTron> i like this guy
04:32 <rotatenow> so about 0.75?
04:33 <DrJoeTron> yeah
04:33 <DrJoeTron> and so on
04:33 <Lucifer> also, I highly recommend you *read* the comments in the configuration
04:33 <Lucifer> because all of your questions have so far been answered there :)
04:33 <DrJoeTron> i never read them :V
04:33 <DrJoeTron> I AINT READIN NUFFIN MANG
04:33 <rotatenow> yeah, just there are heaps and they all tweak something different. hard to start
04:33 <Lucifer> DrJoeTron is a good example of what *not* to do
04:33 * DrJoeTron badmin
04:33 <Lucifer> start by reading the comments
04:33 <Lucifer> we didn't write those so we can sit in an irc channel and type them all again :)
04:34 <rotatenow> I really find those massive configs are great, one of the beauties of open sourse, everyone adds something tweakable
04:34 <Lucifer> there's also a plethora of examples
04:34 <Lucifer> they're easier to read with a syntax-highlighting editor
04:34 <rotatenow> you a Developer/Hacker Lucifer?
04:34 <Lucifer> set it to bash, it'll highlight the comments for you
04:34 <rotatenow> yeah, notepad++
04:34 <Lucifer> yeah, I'm a developer/hacker Lucifer. Fairly inactive right now, though.
04:34 <Sticky__> hacker surely
04:35 <DrJoeTron> HACKER
04:35 <DrJoeTron> HACKER

04:35 <rotatenow> lol
04:35 <DrJoeTron> Lucifer my server broke >: (
04:35 <DrJoeTron> i gotta find my server configs
04:35 <DrJoeTron> also give me channelopmins
04:35 <rotatenow> Thankyou everybody. I might actually have to hire Tron now
04:36 <rotatenow> is it any good?
04:36 <DrJoeTron> is what good
04:36 <DrJoeTron> the movie?
04:36 <Sticky__> fairly good
04:36 <rotatenow> the movie
04:36 <DrJoeTron> ITS THE BEST
04:36 <Sticky__> bit dated now
04:36 <DrJoeTron> (it sucks)
04:36 <Sticky__> its good, just a bit dated
04:36 <rotatenow> better than swoardfish? that surely sucked
04:36 <DrJoeTron> oh god
04:36 <DrJoeTron> rotatenow thats going in with high hopes
04:36 <Sticky__> the graphics were revolutionary for the time
04:36 <DrJoeTron> look at this way
04:37 <DrJoeTron> when i watched it when i was a kid it was great
04:37 <DrJoeTron> and then watching it now, its pretty hard to watch
04:37 <DrJoeTron> so if this is your first time watching it. god speed
04:37 <DrJoeTron> YEAH GUYS I SAID IT
04:37 <rotatenow> :)
04:38 <Lucifer> it's a wonderful story with wonderful special effects, but the cheesiest script ever written
04:38 <Lucifer> it makes Episode 1 look like hardcore literature
04:38 <DrJoeTron> oh god yeah
04:38 <Lucifer> really
04:38 <DrJoeTron> hahaha
04:38 <DrJoeTron> wouldn't say its Jeff Bridges greatest role in a movie ever
04:38 <Lucifer> not his worst, though, either
04:38 <Lucifer> so, we need to build 5 rovers
04:39 <Lucifer> right?
04:39 <Lucifer> number 1, number 2, etc.
04:39 <DrJoeTron> yeah
04:39 <Sticky__> the guy who developed the texturing algorithm for tron got an oscar for it
04:39 <DrJoeTron> fuck i need to type out this outline
04:39 <DrJoeTron> or play team fortress 2 more
04:39 <DrJoeTron> one of those
04:39 <DrJoeTron> and portal
04:40 * Lucifer mutters something about a bunch of kids and goes back to work
04:41 <Sticky__> oh dear
04:41 <Sticky__> On September 11, 2007, it was reported that "director Joseph Kosinski is in final negotiations to develop and direct Tron, described as 'The Next Chapter' of Disney's 1982 cult classic
04:43 <luke-jr> …
04:44 <Sticky__> the same director is also remaking Logans Run, he must be stopped
04:45 <Lucifer> nah, he's just trying to get attention
04:45 <Lucifer> :)
04:46 <ct|kyle> Lucifer: 1000 Views
04:46 <Lucifer> heh
04:46 <ct|kyle> i only added the last 2
04:47 <Lucifer> is it really that interesting, or does that just say more about how many people are clicking through the new posts list?
04:47 <ct|kyle> Who knows make a poll
04:48 <Lucifer> nah, when the time comes, everybody will have a chance to get out their credit card and be counted :)
04:49 <Lucifer> I talked to the other mechanic (the reason he hasn't registered and started posting is because he sees me twice a week already)
04:49 <Lucifer> he's got some ideas for constructing it. I told him where we were at for computers/software development and he's supposed to start working on actual design
04:49 <Lucifer> he'll probably start with a survey of available materials :)
04:51 <ct|kyle> ok
04:52 <Lucifer> I just moved the ada branch to the trunk, and I'm working on the plan now
04:52 <ct|kyle> ok
04:52 <Lucifer> have to update it to incorporate new information that seriously affects pretty much everything :)
04:54 <ct|kyle> Revision 20 on the way i take it
04:57 <ct|kyle> our major problem is going to be keeping the batteries warmed during lunar night
05:02 -!- ghableska [i=user@12-216-98-89.client.mchsi.com] has quit ["Trillian (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com"]
05:02 <ct|kyle> the longest Robot mission to the moon currently is only 5 earth days
05:02 <Lucifer> er, I commit a lot
05:02 <Lucifer> do an update, eh? :)
05:02 <Lucifer> that battery problem goes away if we use a bank of capacitors
05:02 <Lucifer> well, depending on the caps, anyway
05:03 <Lucifer> yeah, I'm up to revision 27
05:03 <ct|kyle> will the fluids in the capacitors freeze?
05:03 <ct|kyle> i just got 26
05:04 <Lucifer> depends on the capacitors we use
05:04 <Lucifer> http://www.ultracapacitors.org/
05:10 <ct|kyle> Lucifer: i was just watching the lunch pad for Aries getting built. the drove stakes roughly 30 meters into the ground
05:13 <Lucifer> mmmmmm, steaks
05:13 <ct|kyle> ya
05:14 <Lucifer> that's probably for the really deep concrete pad they have to put in to hold that thing up
05:14 <Lucifer> that's gonna be one big-ass rocket
05:15 <ct|kyle> they said they were lightning rods
05:18 -!- rotatenow [n=B33B5@c211-28-150-72.brasd1.vic.optusnet.com.au] has quit []
05:19 <Lucifer> wow. the stakes were really big around, then?
05:19 <Lucifer> that's a lot of metal to poke up into the air to prevent the rocket from getting struck by lightning
05:21 <ct|kyle> they were huge
05:24 <Lucifer> ok, I'm done planning, I want to code
05:24 <Lucifer> (done planning for tonight, anyway)
05:25 <Lucifer> I can only spend so much time on that sort of thing before I want to do something else, so we may wind up with a finished rover before we have a finished plan
05:25 <Lucifer> :)
05:25 <ct|kyle> heh
05:25 <Lucifer> I told that guy today the results of my research over the last couple of days, and when I was done he said "We'll probably wind up building a rocket"
05:25 <Lucifer> something about having the rover finished in 2 weeks and needing to work on a rocket to occupy our time :)
05:26 <ct|kyle> 90% of the plan we don't use anyway. it just looks nice to obtain donations
05:27 <Lucifer> yeah. one piece of paper that says "we'll go where development leads us" doesn't look too good to PHBs
05:27 <ct|kyle> ya i better goto bed i get to did a hole tomorrow
05:28 <Lucifer> have fun didding your hole
05:28 <ct|kyle> once it is dug then i gotta fill it back in

This is an LLM-free zone. In general, I am unwilling to use (fight with) any form of "GenAI" to write code for me. So, for the forseeable future, everything on this site will continue to be written by a very silly goose (wait that's me honk honk) with some parts written by other humans as well (silly hu-mon) rather than any plausible-series-of-words token-eating machine. Even my libraries are out of date, and suddenly that's a good thing!
(Although the style has changed several times and content has been added and changed, the base of this site has barely been updated since 2015. But it Ain't Broke!)
This site is also occasionally tested with older browsers, but compatibility is not guarenteed. Although, if you have an old obscure browser and something isn't working that previously did, I guess you can tell me (nelg) about it...
