00:00 <wrtlprnft> well, getting a bit over 40KB/s on each upload
00:00 <wrtlprnft> normal internet connection
00:00 <joda_bo1> sounds like some kind of 6MBit/700kBit Connection ;)
00:00 <wrtlprnft> actually
00:00 <wrtlprnft> http://cablesurf.de/tarife.php?id=11
00:01 <wrtlprnft> the bottom–most one
00:01 <wrtlprnft> it was originally 4000kBit/256kBit I think
00:01 <wrtlprnft> then they kept upgrading it for free
00:01 <wrtlprnft> and I didn't complain :)
00:03 <joda_bo1> hows the latency over those cable modems ?
00:03 <wrtlprnft> pretty nice
00:04 <wrtlprnft> i used to get around 50ms ping on BF
00:04 <wrtlprnft> that is, using my higher- end PC over a wired connection
00:04 <wrtlprnft> this laptop over WLAN lags quite a bit :(
00:05 <joda_bo1> hm, I'm pretty new to WLAN ;)
00:06 <wrtlprnft> well, something's screwed up with my router/wlan card/driver/settings too
00:06 <joda_bo1> but after upgrading my router to OpenWRT the linksys WLAN and Intel chipset on windows work pretty well
00:06 <wrtlprnft> i just dunno what to blame :(
00:06 <DrJoeTron> Liberal media
00:06 * wrtlprnft wishes he had a router he could install openwrt on
00:07 <joda_bo1> what kind of router do you have ?
00:07 <joda_bo1> they really advanced their device support (AFAIK)
00:07 <wrtlprnft> wrt54gc
00:08 <wrtlprnft> i might buy a new one
00:08 <joda_bo1> ah, not enough flash memory :-(
00:09 <joda_bo1> Does anyone know a social wlan service company (hard to discribe)
00:09 <joda_bo1> They offer WLAN Hotspots for members for free, if the member hosts a WLAN hotspot for others too
00:10 <wrtlprnft> not me
00:10 <joda_bo1> and then they have some payed subscriptions for ppl who just want to use the hotspots
00:10 <joda_bo1> well, I saw some report on Tv or heard about it, but I canÄt
00:11 <joda_bo1> can't recall the name or anything to find it with
00:13 <wrtlprnft> sucks :(

00:25 <MaZuffeR> eh?
00:25 <spidey> this is the second time i got caught up in another game and suck at tron :D
00:26 <MaZuffeR> just play a few hours and it'll come back to you
00:26 <spidey> lol
00:26 <spidey> last time it took 2 weeks :p
00:26 <MaZuffeR> it tooks about 5 hours for me
00:26 <joda_bo1> MaZuffeR: thx
00:26 <MaZuffeR> yw
00:26 <spidey> Luke-Jr,
00:27 <joda_bo1> ah, LINUS BILL ALIEN ;)
00:27 <joda_bo1> ah cool ;)
00:27 <joda_bo1> that's what I remember ;)
00:27 <joda_bo1> anyone using / offering it ?
00:30 <joda_bo1> Woa there a lot of access points in my city Paderborn ;)
00:30 <joda_bo1> cool
00:40 <wrtlprnft> grr, sometime python is annoying
00:41 <wrtlprnft> you can't insert an integer into an XML file without explicitly converting it
00:47 <armabot> armagetronad: wrtlprnft * r6165 /private/wrtlprnft/armaspyadvanced/armaspyadvanced.py: Again a more sensible default for the armagetronad command, to prevent further reoccurences of that problem armaspyad now reads its settings from the XML file, too.
00:47 <wrtlprnft> :)
00:48 <joda_bo1> gn8 all, wrtlprnft

05:55 <Lucifer_arma> hi bug boy
05:59 <DrJoeTron> i gots to find 70 bucks pronto
05:59 <Your_mom_arma> for?
05:59 <DrJoeTron> friends roomate is selling a mobo with a 2.5ghz P4
05:59 <Lucifer_arma> hmm, did you send that machine yet? and how much am I supposed to paypal you?
06:00 <DrJoeTron> not yet. I finished gathering the parts for the entire thing and I'm trying to figure out how it goes back together
06:00 <DrJoeTron> This case is horrible
06:01 <Lucifer_arma> man, these physics problems are annoying
06:01 <Lucifer_arma> I've done them all before in algebra, trig, and calculus, and I'm just not coming up with the energy to do it again
06:03 <DrJoeTron> sweet somone managed to get autobanned from my server
06:03 <DrJoeTron> the spider keeps catching flies :D
06:04 <Your_mom_arma> spam?
06:06 <DrJoeTron> yeah
06:08 <Lucifer_arma> the wiki autobans 3-6 people every day according to its logs :)
06:08 <DrJoeTron> wow
06:08 <Lucifer_arma> it autobanned jonathan, heh. Hd to upgrade Bad Behavior so Jonathan could go back to the wiki.
06:09 <DrJoeTron> oh man
06:09 <DrJoeTron> last night
06:09 <DrJoeTron> every possible thing that could go wrong on teamspeak
06:09 <DrJoeTron> happened
06:09 <DrJoeTron> god casper scares the hell out of me
06:10 <DrJoeTron> and and I feel bad kicking him for "you're fucking weird"
06:10 <DrJoeTron> Casper"Hey joe ive never seen what you look like!"
06:10 <DrJoeTron> yeah lets keep it that way
06:11 <Lucifer_arma> you didn't tell hiim you look like his dad?
06:11 <DrJoeTron> he's too creepy
06:11 <DrJoeTron> and he's deaf
06:11 <Lucifer_arma> then what's he doing on teamspeak?
06:11 <DrJoeTron> ever try talking to a deaf guy using a VoiP?
06:11 <DrJoeTron> yeah thats what i fucking said
06:11 <DrJoeTron> i guess he can sort of hear
06:12 <Lucifer_arma> well, my dad's a bit hard of hearing, but phone's different.
06:12 <Lucifer_arma> when you're plugged into your computer, you have a mixer...
06:12 <DrJoeTron> last time he was on had the sound on max
06:13 <DrJoeTron> i have it set to push to talk for most people to prevent ghosting because usually the people just comming on the server arent very familiar how to use voips
06:13 <DrJoeTron> I've had two instances where I've kicked for not doing it
06:14 <DrJoeTron> one was casper because he was screaming at his dog, everything ghosted and he was smashing the computer.
06:14 <Lucifer_arma> hahahahaha
06:14 <DrJoeTron> keyboard*
06:14 <DrJoeTron> one was optic because he's 12 and also baby talking to his dog
06:14 * Lucifer_arma probably wouldn't set push to talk
06:15 <DrJoeTron> i have it set, dont need to because im on a headset so no ghosting problems.
06:15 * Lucifer_arma probably wouldn't have his mic on anyway
06:15 <DrJoeTron> i have it voice activation on when i need both hands
06:15 <DrJoeTron> and then im stuck breathing through my mouth
06:15 <Lucifer_arma> heh
06:16 <Lucifer_arma> no headset for me, just headphones and a fancy mic stand
06:16 <DrJoeTron> haha oh i know ;)
06:16 <Lucifer_arma> but I wouldn't have the mic on anyway, kids are sleeping and stuff.
06:16 <DrJoeTron> GP Cristi was banned for some reason Your_mom_arma
06:16 <Lucifer_arma> after I get far enough in my drafting class I'm going to take inventory of the wood outside
06:17 <DrJoeTron> it says for flood control and was banned for 5 minutes
06:17 <Lucifer_arma> and design a really nice little hutch that'll let me bolt the boom on so I can put the stand away
06:17 <DrJoeTron> haha cool
06:17 <Lucifer_arma> Cristy being banned isn't a loss, though. And it's never a bug.
06:17 <Lucifer_arma> *Cristi
06:17 <Lucifer_arma> Cristi: I got autobanned by joe's server
06:17 <Lucifer_arma> Me: That's not a bug, it's a feature.
06:20 <Lucifer_arma> so, I have to do an earth radius (with speed) problem or a hair-growing problem, and I'm not interested in either of them :/
06:20 <Lucifer_arma> will my teacher kill me if I just do different problems than he assigned?
06:21 <GodTodd> do the hair-growing problem....the answer is rogaine
06:21 <Lucifer_arma> "How long will it be until his next trip to the barber shop?" Rogaine.
06:22 <Lucifer_arma> actually it's not either/or, I have to do both of them. I'm doing the earth radius problem and hating it.
06:22 <GodTodd> well...if the hair is growing...then it's not really a problem, is it? :P
06:22 <DrJoeTron> Your_mom_arma if you wanna meet a fun T, D member nows your chance in my server! :D
06:22 <DrJoeTron> hurry or il ban him :/
06:23 <GodTodd> i really should be doing the third section of trig homework :/
06:23 <Lucifer_arma> #g 10m/minute in m/s
06:24 <Lucifer_arma> #g 10/60
06:24 <Lucifer_arma> is armabot not here?
06:24 <GodTodd> nope
06:24 <Lucifer_arma> man
06:25 <Lucifer_arma> I refuse to convert m/min to m/s
06:25 <GodTodd> you need to fix that attitude, mister ;)
06:25 <GodTodd> heh
06:26 <Lucifer_arma> I hve to throw off digits if I do the conversion, I don't have to if I don't
06:26 <Lucifer_arma> therefore, even with sigfigs, my answer is more accurate
06:27 <DrJoeTron> Luke-Jr still wanna harp on that kid to get your money?
06:27 <DrJoeTron> cause i have his ip
06:27 <Lucifer_arma> what's annoying is that they want average velocity of a person at the equator, and I want to answer in angular velocity but they want it in linear velocity
06:28 <Lucifer_arma> (because the answer is 2pi/day in angular velocity, heh)
06:30 <Lucifer_arma> :1
06:30 <Lucifer_arma> er, sorry
06:30 <GodTodd> heh
06:35 <Lucifer_arma> ack, wait a minute. I need average velocity and average speed
06:40 <Lucifer_arma> arg!
06:40 <Lucifer_arma> this really fucking hurts. So, the kid starts with 1.5 cm hair
06:40 <Lucifer_arma> it grows at the rate of 2.0cm/month
06:40 <Lucifer_arma> how long before he has to cut it again if he wants to cut it at 3.5 cm?
06:41 <Lucifer_arma> ONE MONTH
06:41 <GodTodd> hahaha
06:41 * Lucifer_arma is annoyed now
06:41 <Lucifer_arma> better make sure to answer "1.0 months" and see if I can annoy my teacher
06:41 <GodTodd> convert it to seconds :)
06:42 <Lucifer_arma> nah, then I have to ask how long a month is
06:42 <Lucifer_arma> I could do 1/12 year though
06:43 <Lucifer_arma> I should have said fuck it and signed up for the engineering physics class :/
06:43 <Lucifer_arma> too late now, though
06:43 <GodTodd> yep
06:43 <Lucifer_arma> and there's supposed to be good stuff ahead still
06:43 <Lucifer_arma> we're still in the "learning how to learn physics" part of the class, which should wrap up this week (I hope)
06:44 <Lucifer_arma> word to the wise: if you're going to take algebra-based physics, take it now while you're in trig, or next semester
06:44 <Lucifer_arma> because after you hit calc, it's going to feel genuinely insulting for a little bit
06:44 <GodTodd> well...too late now...maybe next semester tho
06:45 <Lucifer_arma> you might see if they care that much. I've been talking to a couple of guys in engineering physics that say they could've skipped algebra-based physics
06:45 <GodTodd> heh...i had to borrow a calculator from my father in law
06:46 <Lucifer_arma> to satisfy the "no graphing calculator" requirement?
06:46 <GodTodd> cuz my ti-92 is too advanced for the trig tests
06:46 <Lucifer_arma> yeah, that one might be too advanced for calc too
06:46 <GodTodd> nah...they require graphing...just no algebraic abilities
06:46 <Lucifer_arma> they want a graphing calculator for trig? wtf?
06:46 <GodTodd> yep
06:46 <GodTodd> it's in the syllabus
06:47 <Lucifer_arma> in calc 1 they required a graphing calculator for us, but before that it ws "no graphing calculators allowed!"
06:47 <GodTodd> the book even has problems saying "on your graphing calculator" blah blah blah
06:47 <Lucifer_arma> heh, I hate those
06:48 <Lucifer_arma> I can rtfm thankyouverymuch
06:48 <GodTodd> i refused to do the finding various points on a circle...it was just how to read the fucking thing
06:48 <Lucifer_arma> ? but a circle isn't a function...
06:48 <Lucifer_arma> what really irritates me is that nobody let me use my pda as my calculator
06:49 <GodTodd> heh
06:49 <Lucifer_arma> so are you going to do polar coordinates in trig? ;)
06:49 <GodTodd> i think so
06:51 <Lucifer_arma> we touched on it at the end, mostly focused on what the polar system looks like and how to convert between it and cartesian
06:51 <Lucifer_arma> today in my calc 3 class a lot of kids got lost when my teacher "reviewed" polar coordinates
06:51 <Lucifer_arma> I feel like I know something the rest of my class doesn't know, and I suspect a lot of kids will soon be dropping
06:51 <GodTodd> yeah...that's probably what we'll do...we cover them the last two weeks before the final
06:52 <Lucifer_arma> parametric equations too?
06:53 <GodTodd> heh...last week my c++ class was standing room only and this week there were 5-10 empty seats ;)
06:53 <GodTodd> last chapter is complex numbers and polar coordinates
06:54 -!- guru3_ [n=guru3@2002:51e7:e65f:1:0:0:0:1] has joined #armagetron
06:55 -!- guru3 [n=guru3@2002:51e7:e65f:1:0:0:0:1] has quit [Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer)]
06:55 <Luke-Jr> DrJoeTron: eh, sure
06:55 <Luke-Jr> DrJoeTron: more interested in annoying him than getting the money, honestly =p
07:11 <Lucifer_arma> I'm expecting my calc class to thin a bit, but I'm not expecting any of my other classes to thin at all
07:12 <Lucifer_arma> I've got US Gov, drafting, and physics. I suppose the physics class *might* thin some, but I don't see it
07:12 <Lucifer_arma> not if those kids have their math, anyway
07:13 <Lucifer_arma> who drops a government class?
07:13 <Lucifer_arma> and then all the coursework for the drafting class is done in-class under the teacher's supervision, you'd have to really screw up to have to drop that class
07:14 <GodTodd> heh
07:14 <Lucifer_arma> oh good, chapter 3 has vectors in it, that means teh class is looking up now :)
07:14 <GodTodd> wtf doesn't this book simplify the fucking radical ever?
07:14 <GodTodd> it's annoying as hell
07:14 <Lucifer_arma> what radical isn't it simplifying?
07:14 <GodTodd> the one in the denominator
07:15 <Lucifer_arma> it's not rationalizing the denominator? ;)
07:15 <GodTodd> yep
07:15 <Lucifer_arma> hmmm, it's better not to when you're dealing with the special angles
07:16 <Lucifer_arma> you know, sin pi/4 = 1/csc pi/4 = sqrt(2)/2
07:16 <Lucifer_arma> so csc pi/4 = 2/sqrt(2)
07:16 <Lucifer_arma> not that I memorized 'em that way, I memorized them with rationalized denominators :)
07:17 <GodTodd> luckily i'm a fart smeller that knows that (2*sqrt(3))/3 == 2/sqrt(3)
07:18 <Lucifer_arma> hmm, my trig book rationalized denominators. Maybe it's just that one section and they'll go back to anal retentiveness next section
07:18 <GodTodd> hahaha
07:18 <GodTodd> maybe
07:18 <GodTodd> my teacher wants them rationalized so that's how i'm doing them
07:18 <GodTodd> :)
07:19 <GodTodd> right now i'm in the challenging 'six trig functions' section
07:19 <Lucifer_arma> man, trig gets really fun after the boring shit in the beginning
07:20 <GodTodd> tho...i do have a question...cot is the inverse of tan right?
07:20 <Lucifer_arma> nope
07:20 <Lucifer_arma> reciprocal
07:20 <Lucifer_arma> don't get those two mixed up!
07:20 <GodTodd> that's what i meant
07:20 <GodTodd> heh
07:20 <GodTodd> i know
07:20 <Lucifer_arma> well, what you said was cot(tan(x)) = x :)
07:20 <GodTodd> anyway...if that's so...why is cos NOT the reciprocal of sin?
07:21 <GodTodd> yeah...we'll hit inverses :)
07:21 <Lucifer_arma> the relationship of a cofunction isn't a reciprocal relationship
07:21 <GodTodd> and if you say some geometry proof i'll hit you :)
07:21 <Lucifer_arma> well, ahem
07:21 <GodTodd> *thwap*
07:21 <Lucifer_arma> sin(x) = cos(90-x)
07:22 <GodTodd> *thwap*
07:22 * Lucifer_arma smiles :)
07:22 * GodTodd HATED geometry. :/
07:22 <Lucifer_arma> at least I gave it to you in degrees
07:22 <Lucifer_arma> didn't you have Mr. Barry for geometry?
07:22 <GodTodd> nope
07:22 <GodTodd> mrs. reyes
07:23 <GodTodd> algebra and geometry
07:23 <Lucifer_arma> oh. never had her for a class
07:24 <GodTodd> maybe i would have liked geometry better with a better teacher...dunno
07:24 <Lucifer_arma> hard to say, geometry's a sucky class anyway
07:24 <GodTodd> true
07:24 <Lucifer_arma> you don't have enough math to do anything cool, but you're bombarded with weird problems
07:24 <Lucifer_arma> trig is much better, you'll do lots of cool shit there :)
07:24 <GodTodd> i hope so....this is essentially the third time i'm taking it
07:25 <Lucifer_arma> and it's so damn useful, too. you go back to trig in every class after that
07:26 <Lucifer_arma> it's like a bucket of water thrown on you to cool you down in the middle of the semester
07:26 <Lucifer_arma> refreshing :)
07:26 <GodTodd> yeah...i can see trig being useful
07:27 <GodTodd> all i remember about geometry is drawing a bunch of shapes and reproving shit that i wasn't questioning :/
07:27 <Lucifer_arma> proofs are over for now. You'll probably still derive shit, but not like geometry proofs
07:27 <GodTodd> good...then i should coast :)
07:27 <Lucifer_arma> and you'll do identities more than likely, you need those for calculus when you have to do trig substitution
07:28 <Lucifer_arma> it's a completely worthless thing, these trig identities, but the skill you're building is very useful
07:28 <GodTodd> at least algebra and trig are used
07:28 <Lucifer_arma> I don't know, I liked my trig class a lot because there was a lot of visualization
07:28 <GodTodd> geometry is the red headed stepchild
07:29 <Lucifer_arma> the first step for nearly every problem is "draw a picture" :)
07:29 <GodTodd> yeah...i've noticed that
07:29 <Lucifer_arma> well, geometry is a base
07:29 <GodTodd> i like that
07:29 <Lucifer_arma> we did some applications in calc 2 that used a lot of trig that were the same way, 1. Draw a picture :)
07:29 <hiab> geometry is where you lear proofs
07:29 <hiab> and proofs are the most important part of math
07:30 <Lucifer_arma> only if you're going to study more math ;)
07:30 <hiab> only if you care about beauty :D
07:30 <Lucifer_arma> if you're just taking math so you can go use it out in the Real World, who needs a stinkin' proof?
07:30 <GodTodd> exactly
07:30 <Lucifer_arma> I don't need to prove why my ratchet works before I unbolt your CD player
07:30 <GodTodd> i'll take the word of those math geeks from hundreds of years ago
07:31 <hiab> why are you stealing my cd player
07:31 <hiab> :(
07:31 <Lucifer_arma> ah, you need a proof, sorry
07:31 <Lucifer_arma> big daddy don't do proofs
07:31 <GodTodd> although....if people had to prove how a computer worked before using it....the internet would be a LOT more intelligent ;)
07:31 <Lucifer_arma> and empty
07:32 <GodTodd> true
07:32 <hiab> if people had to know how a car worked before driving
07:32 <hiab> that woudl be cool
07:32 <Lucifer_arma> nah, I'll take some basic understanding of motion over knowing shit about how a car works
07:32 <GodTodd> laws of motion?
07:33 <Lucifer_arma> an example in my physics book is "the blazer stops at 7.2m/s, and the celica at 9.8, what's the safe distance for the blazer to follow the celica?" That's what I'm talking about
07:33 <GodTodd> #g 6400+3600
07:33 <hiab> obv as close as possible
07:33 * Lucifer_arma drives a celica
07:33 <GodTodd> armabot: 10,000
07:33 <GodTodd> k
07:33 <hiab> is there a big triangle somewhere
07:33 <GodTodd> bermuda
07:34 <hiab> i don't think bermuda is a right triangle
07:34 <Lucifer_arma> you didn't specify right triangle
07:34 <hiab> well he added two squares and got a third :o
07:34 <Lucifer_arma> who needs a right triangle?
07:34 <hiab> i assumed
07:34 <Lucifer_arma> oh, heh
07:34 <GodTodd> it is tho
07:34 <GodTodd> heh
07:35 <GodTodd> (60,80) on the terminal side of the angle
07:35 <GodTodd> have to find the trig functions
07:35 <GodTodd> boring
07:35 <GodTodd> so far
07:35 <Lucifer_arma> yeah, that part is pretty boring
07:35 <Lucifer_arma> and tedious
07:36 <Lucifer_arma> boring and tedious
07:36 <GodTodd> yep :/
07:36 <Lucifer_arma> but after you wade through it, man oh man. I felt sorry for the kids that found that part too boring and tedious,
07:36 <hiab> sin(x)^2 + cos(x)^2 = 1,000,000
07:36 <Lucifer_arma> then later on they couldn't find sin and cos in a triangle
07:36 <Lucifer_arma> you're gonna need units to justify that statement, bugboy
07:37 <hiab> 1,000,000 micro-ones

08:32 <Lucifer_arma> but I want to boot into a gui first
08:32 <Lucifer_arma> yeah, I know that's what they want, but to get that, everybody needs to run his own server
08:32 <Lucifer_arma> seriously
08:32 <Lucifer_arma> because folks that run servers like to make changes every now and then, especially developers testing shit
08:33 <joda_bot> I guess I'm going to host an access point ;) http://en.fon.com/info/whats_fon.php
08:33 <Lucifer_arma> heh, I'll try to remember that when I get a gui back
08:34 <Lucifer_arma> fucking expat changed its name, so now I have to recompile everything
08:34 <Lucifer_arma> I'm starting to feel more burned by gentoo than helped :(
08:34 <joda_bot> oh right, sorry, ... but you can read it with links links2 or lynx;)
08:34 <joda_bot> Lucifer_arma: been there ;)
08:35 <joda_bot> i like some features of gentoo which should be available on any OS but some are just too much work, e.g. merging configfiles by hand, recompiling so much code ;)
08:35 <Lucifer_arma> well, the recompiling is automated, and the merging config files by hand isn't that bad really
08:36 <Lucifer_arma> there's a nice tool that shows you diffs and you can elect to merge the diff or not
08:36 <Lucifer_arma> what's really irritating me is that updating isn't as simple as "run the updater, reboot"
08:36 <Lucifer_arma> they say it is. Everyone here that uses gentoo has said it is, and it says so in the gentoo docs
08:36 <Lucifer_arma> but that's not reality
08:37 <Lucifer_arma> I ran a simple update, and now I have to recompile 264 packages before I can get a gui, possibly
08:37 <Lucifer_arma> I tried just recompiling kdm and switching my display manager over to kdm, but that was still 27 packages and it's still running
08:38 <Lucifer_arma> had I shown up to my government class today, I'd have been screwed
08:38 <Lucifer_arma> I was about to go order me a nokia 770 after I tried talking it over with my wife and she kept changing the subject, so I can use it as a backup note-taker
08:38 <Lucifer_arma> I'd have needed it today, heh
08:40 <joda_bot> eh, what about the nokia and the goverment class, I don't really get the issue there
08:40 <joda_bot> Why would you have been screwed ?
08:40 <Lucifer_arma> ah, heh, this is kinda dumb. I ran the update last night, right? but didn't reboot
08:40 <joda_bot> and the nokia stuff is unrealted ?
08:40 <Lucifer_arma> sorta
08:41 <Lucifer_arma> see, I'm looking for a new note-taker for that class and other lecture classes like it where I use a keyboard for my note-taking
08:41 <joda_bot> ah so, you could use it for goverment class but failed to use it afterwards ?
08:41 <Lucifer_arma> the nokia 770 is the prime candidate
08:41 <Lucifer_arma> no, well, see, I don't have one yet.
08:41 <Lucifer_arma> this morning I didn't go to my government class, so I didn't reboot my laptop until I got home from my calc class
08:42 <joda_bot> ah, ok so you switched topics after "it's still running" ... got it now
08:42 <Lucifer_arma> at which time I found it ws broken. Had I gone to my government class, the computer would have been broken and I'd have had no backup
08:42 <Lucifer_arma> so I'm looking at a nokia 770 for note-taking. I'd need a keyboard for it still, but I might be able to use it for math classes too since it's a real tablet
08:42 <Lucifer_arma> I need to see one in person, I think
08:44 <joda_bot> I got a 2kg notebook and up to now, I'm quite happy
08:44 <joda_bot> especially since it has a geforce 7400 so, I've got some graphics power too
08:44 <Lucifer_arma> this thing's about 7 lbs
08:44 <Lucifer_arma> too bad armabot's not here, I'd try to convert that, heh
08:44 <joda_bot> (which I need for university cg programming not for arma *hehe*)
08:44 <joda_bot> 4lbs is my
08:44 <Lucifer_arma> the computer by itself isn't bad, it's when I stick it in the backback with the calc and physics textbooks
08:45 <Lucifer_arma> those are substantial textbooks!
08:45 <joda_bot> 2.0 kilograms = 4.40924524 pounds
08:45 <Lucifer_arma> aha
08:45 <Lucifer_arma> the tablet pcs I looked at generally came in around 3lbs, which is less than a kg for you
08:45 <Lucifer_arma> but they're freaking expensive
08:46 <Lucifer_arma> but I'd gladly trade my notebook for one :)
08:46 <joda_bot> well, it's quite robust, but I've got some DIN A4 (about US Letter) sized Stuff inside my backpack + the notebook without any problems
08:46 <Lucifer_arma> everything fits, I bought a backpack designed to take a notebook computer in it
08:46 <Lucifer_arma> it's just heavy
08:47 <Lucifer_arma> probably comes in somewheres around 25 lbs
08:47 <joda_bot> ugh
08:47 <Lucifer_arma> which is quite a bit of weight to carry around campus

08:48 <Lucifer_arma> I wish I'd have done my research and bought a tablet pc at the outset
08:48 <joda_bot> I'm not sure, I'd be using any of the tablet features
08:48 <Lucifer_arma> heh, I stumbled across an asus of some sort last night
08:48 <Lucifer_arma> well, most of the tablets have keyboards attached, they're basically laptops with touch-screens
08:48 <Lucifer_arma> where you can fold the screen over the keyboard
08:48 <joda_bot> perhaps you can rent a tablet to test it for a day
08:48 <Lucifer_arma> there are a few at the low end that lack keyboards completely
08:49 <joda_bot> just to see if it makes sense
08:49 <Lucifer_arma> just on weight the damn things are worth it.
08:49 <joda_bot> Is it possible to order them in the US and return them in the first two weeks ?
08:49 <Lucifer_arma> yeah, but it's a pain. Better to just commit myself to one and if I don't like it, stick it on ebay
08:49 <joda_bot> Ah, you're talking about the UMPCs ?
08:49 <Lucifer_arma> I can still recover around 80% of the price of this laptop if I sell it
08:49 <Lucifer_arma> UMPC?
08:51 <Lucifer_arma> the real problem is I'd have to front $1000 USD to get one, and I might get $600 for this notebook, but that's not a guarantee
08:51 * guru3_ points to his 770
08:51 <joda_bot> ultra mobile pc, there is some MS / Intel based standard going on
08:51 <joda_bot> something like that
08:51 <Lucifer_arma> guru3_: how's that 770 working out for you? you using it for note-taking?
08:51 <guru3_> im not in an environment that i need to take notes yet
08:52 <guru3_> but you could
08:52 <Lucifer_arma> ah, ok. how big is the screen? :)
08:52 <guru3_> 800x480
08:52 <guru3_> about like... 4 or 5 inches
08:52 <Lucifer_arma> I've seen measurements and tried visualizing it, but it's not terribly helpful
08:52 <guru3_> the whole device
08:52 <guru3_> is the size of my hand
08:53 <Lucifer_arma> does it have handwriting recognition? Of course, for real note-taking I'd want a keyboard still
08:53 <guru3_> yes
08:53 <Lucifer_arma> philippe linked me a very nice bluetooth infrared/laser keyboard :)
08:53 <guru3_> that would work with it too
08:53 <joda_bot> O.o bluetooth infrared/laser keyboard ?
08:54 <Lucifer_arma> yeah, it's really neat
08:54 * joda_bot just imagines the combinataion
08:54 <Lucifer_arma> the laser is used to project the keyboard onto a flat surface
08:54 <Lucifer_arma> the infrared is used to detect keypresses
08:54 <joda_bot> oh lol
08:54 <Lucifer_arma> on that flat surface. So the device itself is the size of a cigarette lighter
08:54 <guru3_> ive seen that too
08:54 <guru3_> tried using it sort of in a shop once
08:54 <joda_bot> just thought of a optical keyboard like a mouse but your descriptions makes it useful
08:55 <Lucifer_arma> at $200 I'd have to see it in person before I bought it
08:55 <joda_bot> have you read anything about problems ppl have using it ?
08:55 <Lucifer_arma> no, couldn't find much on it besides what the company itself said about it :/
08:55 <joda_bot> because from what I've read many ppl in the computer industry tend to stay away from such gadgets for notetaking and just use a phone to call and a small notebook to type ;)
08:56 <Lucifer_arma> well, I am trying to push the fold a bit
08:56 <guru3_> despite that i'm all techy
08:56 <Lucifer_arma> I checked out xournal, and it looks like a program that would make it possible for me to take my math notes on a tablet
08:56 <guru3_> i still use pencil & paper for notes
08:57 <Lucifer_arma> well, I can type faster than most people can talk, so it's ideal for a lot of note-taking for me to type
08:57 <guru3_> i cant :S
08:57 <Lucifer_arma> the only problem is when the teacher talks slow and screws up his sentences so I have to think about how to write it
08:57 <Lucifer_arma> but I'd have to do that anyway, so it's not a problem specific to typing notes
08:58 <Lucifer_arma> so this 4-5 inches on the screen, is that horizontal, vertical, or diagonal?

12:56 <wrtlprnft> joda_bot: armabot's dead
12:56 <wrtlprnft> 10:49 <armabot> Sent 8 hours and 40 minutes ago: <joda_bot> tested with DIVX and XVID, as DIVX seems to be more common (your_man, drjoetron and me poll) change use --fourcc DIVX
12:56 <wrtlprnft> that one
12:56 <wrtlprnft> ?
12:57 <joda_bot> AH ... my condolence (or whatever the word ist ;))
12:57 <wrtlprnft> about your_man?
12:57 <joda_bot> the one you send just now
12:57 <joda_bot> #later tell *joda* the new videos are uploaded now…
12:57 <wrtlprnft> aaaaaah
12:57 <joda_bot> :-)
12:58 <wrtlprnft> i understood “read the message” as “there's a message you should read”
12:58 <wrtlprnft> not “I've read the message you sent”
12:58 <joda_bot> so I'm perhaps hosting a fon router, but I'll have to check if it's ok, for the foneros to be send through the tor network ;)
12:58 <joda_bot> that way my ip won't be responsible for most of the troubles the hackery fon users cause
12:59 <joda_bot> image a fon network and each client automatically hosts a onion router for the tor network
12:59 <joda_bot> that might really generate some serious anonymity ;)

21:02 <wrtlprnft> umm, is there any way to finf out on which RAM chip a certain memory address lies?
21:02 <wrtlprnft> besides taking all but one of them out
21:03 <wrtlprnft> memtest complains about a failing address at 00006210f10
21:05 <guru3> does counting up from slot 0 work_
21:05 <guru3> ?
21:05 <wrtlprnft> uh
21:05 <wrtlprnft> they're labelled 1, 2 and 3
21:05 <guru3> ok
21:06 <wrtlprnft> it's 3 addresses now :(
21:06 <wrtlprnft> no, 2, actually
21:06 <guru3> just count up the addresses
21:06 <guru3> each address is x bits or whatever
21:06 <guru3> so i assume address 1 is on slot 1...
21:06 <wrtlprnft> ah, ok
21:06 <wrtlprnft> so it would all be on the chip in slot 1?
21:07 <wrtlprnft> if that one has 128MB and all the error addresses are <100M
21:07 <guru3> depends on how much space each address is

22:41 <Your_mom_arma> did you run memtest wrtlprnft?

22:42 <wrtlprnft> it's booting!
22:43 <wrtlprnft> now the question is, for how long will it work

23:16 <Lucifer_arma> what's 25% of 600?
23:16 <Lucifer_arma> #g 600*.25
23:16 <armabot> 600 * .25 = 150
23:16 <wrtlprnft> #g 25% of 600
23:16 <Lucifer_arma> so, I get 250 if I cut it down and send it to newsforge. If LinuxJournal takes it for print, it's $600, but if they only put it on their website, it's $150
23:16 <armabot> 25% of 600 = 150
23:16 <wrtlprnft> Lucifer_arma: don't even need to think a bit x_X
23:17 <Lucifer_arma> MY PHYSICS CLASS IS BORING!
23:18 <wrtlprnft> boring in the sense of boring stuff (like optics) or in the sense of waaay too easy?
23:20 <Lucifer_arma> waaaay too easy
23:20 <Lucifer_arma> now, true, we're still doing "review", but we should be done with that now and we're still talking about velocity/speed/acceleration
23:21 <Lucifer_arma> next chapter is vectors, which we were supposed to start today
23:21 <guru3> fun
23:21 <Lucifer_arma> what's really boring is that he goes over every homework problem with us, which I can see being very helpful later on, only because we're doing it now on the easy stuff,
23:21 <Lucifer_arma> WE'RE NOT GOING TO GET TO THE HARD STUFF
23:22 <Lucifer_arma> so, we spent an hour going oer math that everyone's supposed to know before they sign up for this class, then a 10 minute lecture, then he spent 5 minutes reading our new homework assignment
23:23 <wrtlprnft> what's so exitin about vectors?
23:23 <wrtlprnft> *exciting
23:24 <guru3> it's two pieces of information in one :D
23:24 <wrtlprnft> or more
23:24 <guru3> like... real life objects
23:25 <wrtlprnft> stupid question: what happens if you multiply twodimensional vectors? Do you just multiply the corresponding complex numbers or doesn't it make any sense at all?
23:25 <wrtlprnft> if the first is true: what about threedimensional vectors?
23:25 <guru3> beats me
23:26 <guru3> ask Lucifer_arma once he's been taught'
23:26 <wrtlprnft> heh
23:26 <Lucifer_arma> never gonna learn it at this rate
23:26 <Lucifer_arma> multiplying doesn't make sense, iirc
23:27 <guru3> lol
23:29 <wrtlprnft> well, you CAN multiply coordinates, apparently
23:29 <wrtlprnft> though it only really makes sense if you're using polar coordinates
23:29 <MaZuffeR> you can't multiply vectors
23:31 <Lucifer_arma> you can multiply coordinates, but in a vector if you multiply the coordinates it's the same as changing the force
23:31 <Lucifer_arma> um, assuming that component of the vector represents force.
23:32 <Lucifer_arma> wrtlprnft: want to install phpBB for your talk page? heh
23:32 <wrtlprnft> Lucifer_arma: x_X
23:32 <wrtlprnft> wikipedia talk pages get MUCH larger
23:32 <Lucifer_arma> that's because nobody ever cleans them
23:33 <wrtlprnft> ?
23:33 <wrtlprnft> people do clean them once in a while
23:33 * Lucifer_arma hasn't really noticed, he only reads a talk page if the article makes it look like there's a flame war going on
23:33 <wrtlprnft> infact, tak pages on this wiki are much more messy
23:33 <Lucifer_arma> well, we're all wiki amateurs
23:33 <wrtlprnft> i do have some experience in the german wikipedia ;)

• Design:
» Layout is loosely based on an old design by Durf.
» Icons on the tools page were originally by Royce, new icons added will try to follow some of the design language.
» Various other icon selections include icons from Crystal, crystalsvg, oxygen, and breeze icon themes.
» Other icons: fontawesome

is a site that has tools, maps, and other various items. It orignally only existed as a server control panel, but I slowly began adding stuff such as a homepage and tools.

This is an LLM-free zone. In general, I am unwilling to use (fight with) any form of "GenAI" to write code for me. So, for the forseeable future, everything on this site will continue to be written by a very silly goose (wait that's me honk honk) with some parts written by other humans as well (silly hu-mon) rather than any plausible-series-of-words token-eating machine. Even my libraries are out of date, and suddenly that's a good thing!
(Although the style has changed several times and content has been added and changed, the base of this site has barely been updated since 2015. But it Ain't Broke!)
This site is also occasionally tested with older browsers, but compatibility is not guarenteed. Although, if you have an old obscure browser and something isn't working that previously did, I guess you can tell me (nelg) about it...
