00:01 <ivantis> you know
00:01 <ivantis> i dont think i have ever talked to CMD_L1N3
00:01 <ivantis> ever
00:01 <CMD_L1N3> hi ivantis i don't think i have ever talked to you either
00:01 <ivantis> weird
00:01 <CMD_L1N3> i'm so sorry
00:03 <ivantis> are kilobytes bigger than megabytes?
00:03 <BabyBug> CMD_L1N3, he's the most annoying person in the world, i wouldn't advise talking to him.
00:03 <ivantis> CMD_L1N3, BabyBug is mentally insane, i wouldn't advise listening to him
00:04 <CMD_L1N3> :-(

00:05 <ivantis> who is blueamy?
00:05 -!- hoax [n=hoax@unaffiliated/hoax] has joined #armagetron
00:05 <epsy> not me, as far as i can tell
00:06 <epsy> CMD_L1N3, it's a she
00:06 <epsy> not a "him", as ivantis suggests
00:06 -!- G5 [n=G5@cl-506.dus-01.de.sixxs.net] has quit []
00:06 <ivantis> BabyBug is a "she"?
00:07 <ivantis> that is amazing!
00:07 <CMD_L1N3> i'm not a she
00:07 <CMD_L1N3> confusion!!!
00:07 <ivantis> you know, there really needs to be an english word for "unisex"
00:07 <ivantis> like
00:07 <ivantis> …
00:07 <ivantis> idk
00:07 * blueamy agrees
00:07 * blueamy nods
00:07 <CMD_L1N3> ivantis: i think the word is 'heshe'
00:08 <BabyBug> Too easily twisted in shehe, then sheman, then shemale, that'd never work. Either way, him is considered unisex i believe
00:09 <blueamy> i'm just amy :)
00:10 <CMD_L1N3> what is the number form of drwxrwxrwxr
00:10 <CMD_L1N3> 0777?
00:10 <BabyBug> Yes
00:10 <CMD_L1N3> so 0775 = drwxrwxr-xr
00:10 <BabyBug> Octal permissions would be the correct name for the numbers CMD_L1N3
00:10 <BabyBug> May help if you ever do googling in the future
00:11 <CMD_L1N3> BabyBug: thanks
00:11 <CMD_L1N3> or if i ever want to sound smart
00:11 <BabyBug> lol that too =P
00:11 <BabyBug> I don't know the conversions between the two off by heart though =P
00:11 <BabyBug> however 0775 does = drwxrwxr-xr
00:11 <BabyBug> no r on the end sorry :P
00:12 <epsy> CMD_L1N3, use [ugoa]+[rwx] or [ugoa]-[rwx]
00:12 <epsy> way easier to remember
00:12 * BabyBug nods
00:12 <CMD_L1N3> ohh
00:12 <CMD_L1N3> i forgot about those
00:12 <epsy> u -> user, g -> group, o -> others, a -> all
00:12 <epsy> you seem to already know about rwx :)rwx
00:13 <BabyBug> What's +s?
00:13 <CMD_L1N3> sex
00:13 <epsy> something i never needed
00:13 <epsy> erm
00:13 <CMD_L1N3> chmod +s /home/yesplease
00:13 <BabyBug> i just remember seeing it one time...never bothered finding out what it did :P
00:13 <epsy> as long as CMD_L1N3 is wrong, that said
00:15 <epsy> +s and +t are optionnal stuff for runtime programs
00:15 <BabyBug> ah
00:15 <epsy> u+s will have the program being run as the actual owner of the file
00:15 <epsy> g+s will have the program being run as the actual owner group of the file
00:16 <epsy> instead of the current user

00:16 <BabyBug> Oh i see
00:16 <BabyBug> That's quite clever
00:16 <epsy> possible, but fairly abusable as well
00:17 * epsy now understands how sudo works
00:17 <BabyBug> yeh that's what i was thinking =P

00:18 <epsy> so it really makes sense then, that you can't change a file's UID or GID as regular user
00:19 <BabyBug> ya, and now i understand how sudo works aswell, hehe
00:19 <BabyBug> so simple
00:19 <epsy> and I've been using sudo since i've been using linux..eh

13:50 <Mixnetwork> jepp
13:51 <Mixnetwork> its for map rotation
13:51 <MrBougo> while sleep 6000; do
13:51 <Mixnetwork> i haf 17 maps
13:51 <MrBougo> or make a cron :p
13:51 <Mixnetwork> they must change every 10 minutes
13:51 <Monkey_arma> are your maps like this:
13:51 <Monkey_arma> /etc/armagetronad/cfg/3
13:51 <Mixnetwork> jep
13:51 <Monkey_arma> /etc/armagetronad/cfg/4
13:51 <Monkey_arma> /etc/armagetronad/cfg/5
13:51 <Monkey_arma> etc?
13:52 <Mixnetwork> yes
13:52 <Monkey_arma> from 1 to 17?
13:52 <Mixnetwork> yes
13:52 <Monkey_arma> code coming up ;)
13:52 <MrBougo> hehe
13:52 <Mixnetwork> jipeee
13:52 <Mixnetwork> :)
13:52 <MrBougo> will you use arithmetic expansion, Monkey_arma ?
13:52 <Monkey_arma> bougo?
13:53 <Mixnetwork> he is writing :)
13:53 <MrBougo> Monkey_arma, to cycle through the numbers
13:53 <Monkey_arma> no
13:53 <Monkey_arma> a for loop
13:53 <MrBougo> aighty
13:53 <MrBougo> I guess he wants to come back to 1 when 17 is done
13:54 <Mixnetwork> jepp
13:54 <Monkey_arma> oh
13:54 <Monkey_arma> he said not:
13:54 <Monkey_arma> <Monkey_arma> does it only do 17 then exit?
13:54 <Monkey_arma> <Mixnetwork> jepp
13:54 <Monkey_arma> !!
13:54 <Monkey_arma> so make your mind up please
13:54 <MrBougo> eh
13:54 <Mixnetwork> as i said it must start again if 17 is done
13:54 <Monkey_arma> so always 1-17,1-17,...?
13:54 <MrBougo> didnt read that :p
13:55 <Monkey_arma> well its ok
13:55 * Monkey_arma works on it
14:06 <Monkey_arma> almost done
14:07 <Mixnetwork> fine
14:07 <Monkey_arma> explain the sleep 6000
14:07 <Monkey_arma> you want to not go back to beginning for 6000?
14:07 <Monkey_arma> or?
14:07 <Monkey_arma> i dont see why you would do that i'm a little confused
14:09 <Monkey_arma> Mixnetwork ?
14:09 <Mixnetwork> yes
14:09 <Monkey_arma> ah sorry i misread
14:09 <Mixnetwork> ok
14:10 <Monkey_arma> so you want to sleep after every copy?
14:10 <Monkey_arma> i see now
14:10 <Monkey_arma> ok wait a sec
14:10 <Monkey_arma> #!/bin/bash$
14:10 <Monkey_arma> while true ; do$
14:10 <Monkey_arma> for (( MAP_NUMBER=1 ; ${MAP_NUMBER}<=17 ; MAP_NUMBER++ )) $

14:10 <Monkey_arma> sleep 6000s$
14:10 <Monkey_arma> done$
14:11 <Monkey_arma> done$
14:11 <Mixnetwork> yes because thy should play 10 minutes at this map before next one comes
14:11 <Monkey_arma> ok thats it
14:11 <Monkey_arma> er wtf is that $ doing ther?
14:11 <Monkey_arma> hehe i copied from vim ok sry i do again

14:12 <Monkey_arma> ye do that
14:12 <Mixnetwork> try
14:12 <Monkey_arma> tell me if it works
14:13 <Monkey_arma> try changing 6000 to something smaller to test
14:13 <Monkey_arma> i should really have indented the for loop too, sry im tired
14:13 * Monkey_arma slaps self
14:14 <Mixnetwork> hehe
14:14 <Monkey_arma>
14:14 <Monkey_arma>

14:48 <MrBougo> Monkey_arma
14:48 <MrBougo> ${MAP_NUMBER}<=17
14:48 <MrBougo> hur?
14:49 <MrBougo> but that doesn't cycle
14:50 <MrBougo> use arithmetic eval
14:51 <MrBougo> (( ($MAP_NUMBER - 1) % 17 <= 16 ))
14:51 <MrBougo> I guess
14:51 <MrBougo> woops, dollar sign before it
14:52 <MrBougo> oh lol
14:52 <MrBougo> I suck too
14:52 <MrBougo> that sort of makes no sense as it will always be true xD
14:52 <epsy> hrhr
14:52 <MrBougo> MAP_NUMBER = $(( ($MAP_NUMBER - 1) % 17 + 1 ))
14:53 <epsy> belgian programming ftw
14:53 <MrBougo> or use sane file names, starting with map0
14:53 <MrBougo> that makes stuff easier
14:53 <MrBougo> also it's +2
14:53 <MrBougo> duh
14:53 * BabyBug waves
14:53 <MrBougo> and not
14:53 <MrBougo> oh gosh I suck today
14:54 <MrBougo> MAP_NUMBER = $(( $MAP_NUMBER % 17 + 1 ))
14:54 <Mixnetwork> hmmm it seems that it doe not work
14:54 <Mixnetwork> that i must chage?
14:54 <MrBougo> nope
14:54 <Mixnetwork> change
14:54 <MrBougo> wait for Monkey_arma :p
14:54 <Mixnetwork> ok
14:54 <MrBougo> don't listen to the belgian fool
14:54 <MrBougo> (that's me)
14:54 <epsy> isn't it $[] in bash?
14:54 <Mixnetwork> lol
14:54 <MrBougo> epsy, nope
14:55 <BabyBug> It appeared to run fine here
14:55 <epsy> ..for arithmetics
14:55 <MrBougo> the most uptodate arithmetic expansion is $(())
14:55 <MrBougo> epsy, $[] is deprecated
14:55 <MrBougo> so is ``
14:55 <epsy> what i am meant to use instead of `` ?
14:55 <MrBougo> $()
14:55 <epsy> pf
14:56 <MrBougo> er
14:56 <MrBougo> ` sucks on french keyboards anyway
14:56 <MrBougo> also, is it ` or is it something else
14:56 <MrBougo> I always forget
14:56 <epsy> i remember it ^^
14:56 <epsy> and it's not that hard to type
14:57 <MrBougo> [ ] is deprecated too
14:57 <MrBougo> use [[ ]] instead

15:32 <Monkey_arma> guys, my code works
15:32 <Monkey_arma> whether you can do what you are trying to do with your maps is another matter
15:33 <Monkey_arma> it will only load a map after the round ends i think
15:33 <Monkey_arma> im not really into maps so ask someone else about that
15:35 <Mixnetwork> well if i do this command
15:35 <Mixnetwork> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/9 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:35 <Mixnetwork> it works
15:36 <Mixnetwork> so the only thing the script must do ist copey 1 cfg file to evrything.cfg wait a certain time and take the next one
15:36 <Monkey_arma> mixnetwork, i have tested my code and it works
15:36 <Monkey_arma> look:
15:37 <Mixnetwork> perhaps i started the script wrong?
15:37 <Monkey_arma> here is a sample with 2second delays
15:37 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/1 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:37 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/2 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:37 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/3 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:37 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/4 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:37 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/5 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:37 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/6 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:37 <Mixnetwork> because i am not so familiar with linux
15:37 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/7 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:37 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/8 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg

15:37 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/11 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:37 <Mixnetwork> hmm
15:37 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/12 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:37 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/13 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg

15:37 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/16 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:37 <Mixnetwork> than i must doing something wrong
15:38 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/17 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:38 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/1 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:38 <Monkey_arma> cp /etc/armagetronad/cfg/2 /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:38 <Monkey_arma> that i did with echo statement
15:38 <Monkey_arma> yep
15:38 <Mixnetwork> how you stated it?
15:38 <Mixnetwork> started#
15:38 <Monkey_arma> first you must chmod it
15:38 <Mixnetwork> to
15:38 <Monkey_arma> 744 should be fine
15:39 <Monkey_arma> chmod 744 file
15:39 <Mixnetwork> hmmm i have
15:39 <Mixnetwork> i have 755
15:40 <Monkey_arma> try changing "cp" to "cp -f"
15:40 <Monkey_arma> that will force overwrite
15:40 <Mixnetwork> i did
15:41 <Monkey_arma> i still think it should not matter
15:41 <Monkey_arma> i start the script by just doing:
15:41 <Mixnetwork> i called the script rotation.sh and start it with screen /etc/init.d/rotation.sh
15:41 <Monkey_arma> file
15:41 <Mixnetwork> i also tried it witgout screen
15:42 <Mixnetwork> but nothing happens
15:43 <Monkey_arma> hmm
15:43 <Mixnetwork> is my start OK?
15:43 <Mixnetwork> the command i mena
15:43 <Mixnetwork> mean
15:43 <Monkey_arma> what user do you start the script as?
15:44 <Mixnetwork> root
15:44 <Monkey_arma> well first of all that is not very secure to do that but for now we will deal with this issue first
15:44 <Monkey_arma> are you sure you have the correct directories and files?
15:44 <Monkey_arma> /etc/arma...etc
15:44 -!- akira_arma [n=chatzill@77.64.160.23] has joined #armagetron
15:45 <Mixnetwork> jepp
15:45 <Monkey_arma> ah hang on
15:45 <Monkey_arma> do you exit as root after starting?
15:46 <Monkey_arma> (when you try it manually)
15:46 <Mixnetwork> no
15:46 <Monkey_arma> hmm
15:46 <Mixnetwork> not yet i waited
15:46 <Mixnetwork> but with sreen it does not matter if i detach the screen
15:46 <Monkey_arma> ok i tell you what, do this:
15:47 <Monkey_arma> just do it manually for now, and don't leave as root
15:47 <Monkey_arma> then do:
15:47 <Monkey_arma> first of all, change the 6000s to 30s
15:47 <Mixnetwork> ok
15:47 <Monkey_arma> then we will see if at least everytime is being overwritten
15:48 <Monkey_arma> so run the script then do:
15:48 <Monkey_arma> less /etc/armagetronad/everytime.cfg
15:48 <Monkey_arma> you can keep checking every 30 seconds if it has been overwritten
15:48 <Monkey_arma> (you will need to do the "less" command again each time
15:49 <Mixnetwork> hmmm
15:49 <Monkey_arma> make sure you do the less command stuff in another terminal
15:49 <Mixnetwork> iis this command wright?
15:49 <Mixnetwork> screen /etc/init.d/rotation.sh
15:49 <Monkey_arma> dont touch the terminal with the script
15:49 <Monkey_arma> forget screen for now
15:49 <Mixnetwork> ok
15:50 <Monkey_arma> open 2 terminals
15:50 <Monkey_arma> in one do the script
15:50 <Mixnetwork> because it termintes immediately
15:50 <Monkey_arma> in the other do the less commands
15:50 <Monkey_arma> oO
15:50 <Monkey_arma> what distro?
15:50 <Monkey_arma> ubuntu?
15:50 <Mixnetwork> yep
15:50 <Monkey_arma> what terminal?
15:50 <Mixnetwork> putty i use
15:50 <Monkey_arma> ew
15:50 <Mixnetwork> to connect
15:51 <Monkey_arma> cant you use ssh?
15:51 <Mixnetwork> yes
15:51 <Monkey_arma> do that
15:52 <Monkey_arma> make 2 connections is the easiest way for this test
15:53 <Mixnetwork> i have now
15:53 <Monkey_arma> one for the script, one for the less commands
15:53 <Mixnetwork> running
15:53 <Monkey_arma> k
15:54 <Mixnetwork> hmmm works
15:54 <Mixnetwork> perhaps i must put thescript in root?
15:54 <Monkey_arma> ^^
15:54 <Monkey_arma> in root?
15:55 <Mixnetwork> now i have copied it in init.d

15:57 <Monkey_arma> er..
15:59 <Mixnetwork> hmmm it runs though prcess says its not running , starnge
15:59 <Mixnetwork> strange
15:59 <Monkey_arma> are you doing it via screen?
15:59 <Mixnetwork> no
15:59 <Monkey_arma> or just from bash?
15:59 <Monkey_arma> it should not stop ever
16:00 <Mixnetwork> thats how it should be yes
16:00 <Monkey_arma> how are you starting it?
16:00 <Mixnetwork> hmmm, now i wonder why its not running in screen
16:00 <Monkey_arma> does it work ok in interactive bash terminal for ever?
16:00 <Mixnetwork> eh
16:01 <Mixnetwork> wait
16:01 <Mixnetwork> small characters :)
16:01 <Monkey_arma> ?
16:02 <Mixnetwork> this way
16:02 <Mixnetwork> og
16:02 <Mixnetwork> [/etc/init.d/rotation.sh]
16:03 <Monkey_arma> that is how to do it from screen?
16:03 <Mixnetwork> yes and also without screen
16:03 <Monkey_arma> yes
16:03 <Monkey_arma> i dont understand why you need screen
16:03 <Monkey_arma> forget screen
16:03 <Mixnetwork> does not it end if i exit as root?
16:04 <Monkey_arma> do you understand how to alter init scripts?
16:04 <Mixnetwork> no :(
16:04 <Monkey_arma> heh
16:04 <Monkey_arma> :
16:04 <Monkey_arma> well i will see if i can help

16:05 <Monkey_arma> type this:
16:05 <Monkey_arma> who -a
16:05 <Monkey_arma> tell me what run-level you are in
16:05 <Mixnetwork> now i have exit putty and the script stopped
16:05 <Monkey_arma> who -a
16:05 <Monkey_arma> we will make the script permanent dont worry
16:06 <Mixnetwork> ok i am logged in again
16:06 <Mixnetwork> run level 2
16:06 <Monkey_arma> so that is the run level that arma will be in when you run it on the server yes?
16:07 <Mixnetwork> yes
16:07 <Monkey_arma> (when i say run level i mean on the server)
16:07 <Monkey_arma> ok good
16:07 <Mixnetwork> must be :)
16:07 <Mixnetwork> hmmm
16:07 <Mixnetwork> i can start the script over webimin now
16:08 <Mixnetwork> you know webmin
16:08 <Mixnetwork> ?
16:08 <Monkey_arma> forget webmin
16:08 <Mixnetwork> lol
16:08 <Monkey_arma> we will alter an init script
16:08 <Monkey_arma> im just looking at my old debian etc directory
16:08 <Mixnetwork> hehe
16:09 <Monkey_arma> ok i think we are in luck
16:09 <Mixnetwork> if this work i have to transfer all to my virtual server :)
16:09 <MrBougo> Monkey_arma, wheres your script?
16:09 <Monkey_arma> you can make a file called /etc/rc.local and put any commands in there to start at boot
16:09 <Monkey_arma> so do that
16:09 <MrBougo> eh
16:09 <Monkey_arma> put the script command in that
16:09 <Monkey_arma> ok?
16:09 <MrBougo> that will make it for *any* user
16:10 <MrBougo> and it will do the rotation *all the time*
16:10 <Monkey_arma> he wants it all the time no?
16:10 <MrBougo> oh well =p
16:10 <Monkey_arma> any user wtf bougo?
16:10 <Mixnetwork> ah shit
16:10 <Monkey_arma> that is an init script
16:10 <MrBougo> I dont know

16:11 <Mixnetwork> at the moment yes, its my local test machine
16:11 <MrBougo> oh well
16:11 <MrBougo> that's fine then
16:11 <Mixnetwork> if it work i want to put it on my virtual server i have
16:11 <Monkey_arma> we can do it another way Mixnetwork
16:11 <Monkey_arma> we can make a wrapper script if you dont want it to be every time the machine boots

16:14 <Monkey_arma> forget screen
16:14 <Monkey_arma> or whatever you are doing
16:15 <Mixnetwork> i tried to start it over webmin :)
16:15 <Mixnetwork> just a try
16:15 <Monkey_arma> ok this is what we will do for now
16:15 <Monkey_arma> we will make a wrapper script
16:16 <Monkey_arma> i will give you commands to do
16:16 <Mixnetwork> ok
16:16 <Monkey_arma> "whereis armagetronad"
16:16 <Monkey_arma> show me result#
16:17 <Mixnetwork> v
16:17 <Mixnetwork> [ /etc/armagetronad]
16:18 <Monkey_arma> oO
16:18 <Monkey_arma> what is v? what is [ ] ?
16:19 <Mixnetwork> v was wrong key :) [ is that he shows the code in here
16:19 <Mixnetwork> ohterwis i get a message Unknown comand ::)
16:20 <Monkey_arma> ok more commands:
16:21 <Monkey_arma> you only got /etc/armagetronad for whereis?
16:21 <Mixnetwork> yep
16:21 <Monkey_arma> you should have a binary
16:21 <Monkey_arma> i get this:
16:21 <Monkey_arma> armagetronad: /etc/armagetronad /usr/local/bin/armagetronad
16:21 <BabyBug> Just my 2 cents sanity check, you didn't include the " did you Mixnetwork?
16:22 <Mixnetwork> hmmm me not
16:22 <Monkey_arma> try "which armagetron"
16:22 <Monkey_arma> try "which armagetronad"
16:22 <Monkey_arma> sory
16:22 <Mixnetwork> but server runs with command amgagetrobad-dedicated
16:22 <Monkey_arma> ah ye
16:22 <Monkey_arma> "whereis armagetronad-dedicated"
16:23 <Mixnetwork> [/etc/armagetronad-dedicated /usr/games/armagetronad-dedicated /usr/games/armagetronad-dedicated.real ]
16:23 <Monkey_arma> ok commands:
16:24 <Monkey_arma> "mv /usr/games/armagetronad-dedicated /usr/games/armagetronad-dedicated.bin"
16:24 <Mixnetwork> ?? move? than the other servers won't run anymore
16:25 <Monkey_arma> trust me
16:25 <Monkey_arma> we have not finished yet
16:25 <Mixnetwork> ok done
16:25 <Monkey_arma> what directory is your rotation script?
16:26 <Monkey_arma> put it where you like best then tell me
16:26 <Mixnetwork> now i hav it in root
16:27 <Monkey_arma> for now, put it in /usr/games
16:27 <Mixnetwork> ok
16:27 <Monkey_arma> now more commands:
16:28 <Mixnetwork> done
16:29 <Monkey_arma> "echo armagetronad-dedicated.bin > /usr/games/armagetronad-dedicated"
16:29 <Monkey_arma> "echo rotation.sh > /usr/games/armagetronad-dedicated"
16:29 <Monkey_arma> ah no
16:29 <Monkey_arma> jeez i start again
16:29 <Mixnetwork> lol
16:30 <Monkey_arma> "> armagetronad-dedicated"
16:30 <Monkey_arma> "echo armagetronad-dedicated.bin > /usr/games/armagetronad-dedicated"
16:30 <Monkey_arma> "echo rotation.sh >> /usr/games/armagetronad-dedicated"
16:30 <Monkey_arma>
16:30 <Monkey_arma> note the >>
16:31 <Monkey_arma> that should work fine now i think
16:31 <Mixnetwork> ok i try it now
16:33 -!- KeY_3113 [n=K-Yo@unaffiliated/k-yo] has joined #armagetron
16:33 <Mixnetwork> hmmm armagetron is not starting
16:33 -!- KeY_3113 [n=K-Yo@unaffiliated/k-yo] has quit [Client Quit]
16:33 <K-Yo> haha, wrong app :P*
16:34 <MrBougo> uh Monkey_arma
16:34 <MrBougo> what your wrapper does is start arma's dedicated, and when it quits, it then starts the rotation thing
16:34 <Monkey_arma> good point
16:34 <Mixnetwork> lol
16:34 <MrBougo> also, you need ./
16:35 <Monkey_arma> ?
16:35 <MrBougo> ./rotation.sh&
16:35 <Monkey_arma> ah if your path is not set
16:35 <MrBougo> ./armagetronad-dedicated.bin
16:35 <Monkey_arma> i set my path
16:35 <Monkey_arma> ye his path will not be set like mine
16:35 <Monkey_arma> yep, as bougo says, he is right on this one
16:36 <Monkey_arma> edit the armagetronad-dedicated file
16:36 <Monkey_arma> put:
16:36 <Mixnetwork> what must i do?
16:36 <Monkey_arma> #!/bin/bash
16:36 <Monkey_arma> ./rotation.sh&
16:36 <Monkey_arma> ./armagetronad-dedicated.bin
16:36 <Monkey_arma> er no bougo you are wrong
16:37 <MrBougo> and it will fail
16:37 <Monkey_arma> jeez you belgians
16:37 <MrBougo> as it can not be exec'd from "outside"
16:37 <Monkey_arma>
16:37 <Monkey_arma>
16:37 <epsy>
16:37 <epsy>
16:37 <Monkey_arma> #!/bin/bash
16:37 <Monkey_arma> ./armagetronad-dedicated.bin&
16:38 <Monkey_arma> ./rotation.sh&
16:38 <Monkey_arma> like that
16:38 * epsy feels like going c-c-c-combo breaker!
16:38 <MrBougo> uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh
16:38 <Monkey_arma> the first 3 lines
16:38 <MrBougo> why is this, Monkey_arma
16:38 <MrBougo> so you start the server in background and the rotation script too
16:38 <Monkey_arma> or will that end hmm
16:38 <MrBougo> why wouldn't you leave the ded in foreground
16:38 <MrBougo> also, if you quit the server, it will keep the rotation running
16:39 <MrBougo> if you restart it, it will make the rotation run TWICE
16:39 <MrBougo> at the same time
16:39 <MrBougo> == fail
16:39 <Monkey_arma> your way, the rotation does not stop after the server stops
16:39 <Monkey_arma> also, it starts before the server even starts
16:39 <Mixnetwork> hehe
16:39 <MrBougo> yes, and?
16:39 <MrBougo> it starts at the same time than the server
16:39 <Mixnetwork> it musz not be so complicated
16:39 <MrBougo> and with your way it does not stop when the server stops
16:40 <Monkey_arma> we need to source those commands i think
16:40 <MrBougo> uuh
16:40 <MrBougo> why?
16:40 <Monkey_arma> to source the file
16:40 <BabyBug> <3 epsy
16:40 <MrBougo> yes, and what would that do?
16:41 <MrBougo> obviously nothing special
16:41 <Mixnetwork> ehm
16:41 <epsy> Shark BabyBug!
16:41 <BabyBug> O.o
16:41 <Monkey_arma> bougo i think you are complicating things
16:41 <Mixnetwork> well server is running always
16:41 <MrBougo> running bash scripts along with another program is fail
16:41 <Monkey_arma> no its not
16:41 <Mixnetwork> i have alreade 3 server runnig
16:41 <Monkey_arma> wtf?
16:41 <epsy> especially with python
16:41 <epsy> *cough* teabot *cough*
16:41 <Monkey_arma> just run in background like i did
16:41 <BabyBug> python rox!
16:42 <MrBougo> you'd need a ps aux | grep "armagetronad-dedicated" | grep -v grep into your iteration in your rotation.sh
16:42 <MrBougo> and kill if it does not return anything
16:42 <Monkey_arma> but source the file with the commands in
16:42 <MrBougo> and make it create a lockfile that prevents it to run twice
16:42 <Monkey_arma> we can do a loop
16:42 <MrBougo> what does source bring
16:42 <Monkey_arma> that checks for existance of that
16:42 <Mixnetwork> well i am very confused now
16:43 <MrBougo> source makes the script run in the current environment
16:43 <MrBougo> what's the purpose of this?
16:43 <Monkey_arma> i was thinking of not backgrounding the last command
16:43 <MrBougo> run the rotation before the dedicated
16:43 <Monkey_arma> w/e
16:44 <MrBougo> and only the rotation in background
16:44 <MrBougo> make the rotation check if the dedicated is running before copying the files
16:44 <MrBougo> and put an exit if it's not running
16:44 <MrBougo> there you go
16:44 <Monkey_arma> whats with all the ps aux crap?
16:44 <MrBougo> it's hacky
16:44 <Monkey_arma> ye its hacky
16:44 <MrBougo> Monkey_arma, just imagine this
16:44 <MrBougo> I run my arma server
16:44 <MrBougo> then I decide to shut it down for a second
16:44 <MrBougo> I restart it
16:45 <MrBougo> now I get *two* rotation scripts running in background
16:45 <Monkey_arma> bougo, use pgrep
16:45 <MrBougo> oh I didn't know that :p
16:45 <Monkey_arma> ok
16:45 <epsy> use pid files?
16:45 <MrBougo> epsy, does arma make pid files?
16:45 <Monkey_arma> yes it does
16:45 <MrBougo> neat
16:46 <epsy> i guess so
16:46 <MrBougo> what does it do when you run multiple instances?
16:46 <Monkey_arma> heh
16:46 <Monkey_arma> idk
16:46 <Monkey_arma> probably goes crazy
16:46 <epsy> MrBougo, the init script does, not arma itself
16:46 <Monkey_arma> :)
16:46 <Mixnetwork> hey, i start my other servers with a script so i think we dont must d anything here
16:46 <MrBougo> epsy, is it bash?
16:46 <MrBougo> I may be interested
16:46 <epsy> so you can't start multiple instances with it
16:46 <epsy> MrBougo, yes
16:46 <MrBougo> sweet
16:46 <MrBougo> where are the reps?
16:46 <MrBougo> oh it's cvs
16:46 <MrBougo> or bazaar
16:46 <MrBougo> I don't remember
16:46 <MrBougo> is there an http gateway?
16:47 <epsy> http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~armagetronad-dev/armagetronad/0.2.8-armagetronad-work/files
16:47 <MrBougo> thanks
16:47 <epsy> that's no gateway btw :þ
16:47 <MrBougo> oh well
16:47 <MrBougo> what is it :p
16:47 <Monkey_arma> i gtg now :\
16:47 <epsy> idk, perhaps install arma :D
16:47 <MrBougo> uuh
16:48 <MrBougo> the link you sent me
16:48 <epsy> http://bazaar.launchpad.net/%7Earmagetronad-dev/armagetronad/0.2.8-armagetronad-work/files/910?file_id=4612%407d95bf1e-0414-0410-9756-b78462a59f44%3Aarmagetronad%252Fbranches%252F0.2.8%252Farmagetronad%3Abatch
16:48 <epsy> probably thee
16:48 <MrBougo> it's a way to browse the bzr reps through http
16:48 <epsy> there*
16:48 <epsy> this is it..
16:48 <MrBougo> /batch/serverstarter.in
16:48 <MrBougo> I guess
16:49 <MrBougo> oh
16:49 <MrBougo> shucks
16:49 <MrBougo> it stores the pid of the bash script
16:49 <MrBougo> not of the program :p
16:49 <epsy> uhm, no
16:49 <epsy> ${BINDIR}/@progname@@executable_suffix@ --userdatadir ${VARDIR} --daemon $* &
16:49 <epsy> jobs -p > ${PIDDIR}/@progname@.pid
16:49 <Monkey_arma> Mixnetwork if you don't get this sorted while i am away i will do a "nice" script for you later that is more tidy.
16:50 <MrBougo> oh
16:50 <MrBougo> echo $$ > ${PIDDIR}/@progname@-starter.pid
16:50 <MrBougo> I see
16:50 <MrBougo> nvm
16:50 <MrBougo> got confused :D
16:50 <MrBougo> argh, it relies on background processes
16:50 <MrBougo> been trying that x_x
16:50 <epsy> as any init script
16:50 <MrBougo> sure
16:51 <MrBougo> well
16:51 <MrBougo> I made some script for nex
16:51 <MrBougo> to auto-restart on crash and freeze
16:51 <MrBougo> but I wanted to keep stdin active for the server console
16:52 <epsy> you can fake it on another console
16:52 <MrBougo> yeah, using fifo crap?
16:52 <epsy> tail -fn0 /path/to/log & cat >>stdin
16:52 <MrBougo> tried that :p
16:53 <MrBougo> hur?
16:53 <MrBougo> ouch
16:53 <MrBougo> gonna try this
16:53 <epsy> when cat is given no argument, it takes input from stdin, as many other GNU programs

17:43 <BabyBug> heh, cute name ^^
17:45 <madmax> huh, *has
17:52 <BabyBug> does anyone have the tar.gz of 0.3.0 from beta.armagetronad.net?
17:56 <epsy> why would you need that? it's 2 years old and you know how to compile from bzr sources
17:57 <BabyBug> I prefer 0.3.0 over any of the 0.2.x brances, and the bzr of 0.3 crashes on me =P (i know 0.3.0 works)
17:57 <epsy> you may try r1 from bzr
17:58 <BabyBug> How do i get a specific revision?

This is an LLM-free zone. In general, I am unwilling to use (fight with) any form of "GenAI" to write code for me. So, for the forseeable future, everything on this site will continue to be written by a very silly goose (wait that's me honk honk) with some parts written by other humans as well (silly hu-mon) rather than any plausible-series-of-words token-eating machine. Even my libraries are out of date, and suddenly that's a good thing!
(Although the style has changed several times and content has been added and changed, the base of this site has barely been updated since 2015. But it Ain't Broke!)
This site is also occasionally tested with older browsers, but compatibility is not guarenteed. Although, if you have an old obscure browser and something isn't working that previously did, I guess you can tell me (nelg) about it...
