01:00 <ivantis> i read Learning Perl, O'Reilly publishing
01:00 <ivantis> you should start with a smaller and simpler language than C++
01:01 <Ratchett> -.-
01:01 <Ratchett> I don't want to waste time learning smaller stuff, go for the full 100 :P
01:01 <ivantis> dude
01:01 <ivantis> youre insane

01:01 <Ratchett> so is C#
01:01 <Ratchett> :D
01:02 <ivantis> duh, a moron and microsoft wrote C# (er, jacked it from C++), so any moron could program it
01:02 <Ratchett> lol
01:02 <Ratchett> So I'm a moron now?
01:02 <Ratchett> :p

01:56 <Ratchet-> It's saying theres errors with MSVS C++ AND code blocks..
01:56 <ivantis> you mean your computer is terrible windows?
01:56 <Monkey_arma> Ratchet- you can get many free tools like the ones we use on linux/unix, for Windows
01:57 <Monkey_arma> www.gnu.org provide many, like the gcc compiler
01:57 -!- zmanuel [n=manuel@p50872BC8.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] has quit [Read error: 113 (No route to host)]
01:57 <Ratchet-> Okay so:
01:58 <Ratchet-> Get a compiler from gnu.org and try?
02:15 <Monkey_arma> Ratchet- if you can get the compiler to install yes
02:15 <Ratchet-> ok
02:15 <Monkey_arma> there are many tools for Windows that are free and great
02:16 <Monkey_arma> not just gnu ones
02:16 <Monkey_arma> web browsers, paint programs, 3D modelling, sound, text editors, etc
02:17 <Monkey_arma> firefox, gimp, openoffice.org, vim are high quality examples
02:18 <Monkey_arma> oh and for IRC go to silverex.org
02:18 <Monkey_arma> that is a build/version of xchat for windows
02:18 <Monkey_arma> (IRC client)
02:19 <Flex> dude have you even used xchat on Windows? if you did, then you would know it isn't the best client for Windows
02:20 <Monkey_arma> If there is a type of program you want just ask me or others in here...we can suggest some.
02:20 <Flex> because it's not free, and limited to 30days then it locks you out.. not to even forget to mention that it's quite buggy
02:20 <Monkey_arma> flex wrong
02:20 <Monkey_arma> silverex.org is a free build
02:21 <Ratchet-> I got it from XCHAT.com
02:21 <Ratchet-> and no 30day problems displayed
02:22 <Ratchet-> LOL
02:22 <Ratchet-> not xchat.com
02:22 <Ratchet-> dont go there
02:22 <Flex> lol
02:22 <Ratchet-> by all means
02:22 <Ratchet-> its xchat.org
02:22 <hoax> idk, xchat.com looked kinda good
02:22 <Ratchet-> wow a porn site discovered on accident
02:22 <Ratchet-> nice
02:25 <Ratchet-> okay so gnu.org
02:25 <Ratchet-> is all linux stuff
02:25 <Ratchet-> I R on xp
02:27 <Monkey_arma> ratchet, they have versions for windows too
02:28 <Ratchet-> gcc.gnu.org

02:46 <Ratchet-> i am 13 years old :O
02:46 <Rogue> hey ratch.
02:46 <Ratchet-> hey rogue :D
02:46 <Monkey_arma> http://www.ubuntu.com/
02:47 <Ratchet-> is that windows?
02:47 <Monkey_arma> ubuntu is the easiest linux distribution
02:47 <hoop> no monkey! XD if ratchet laerns building on windows it'll be good
02:47 <hoop> *learns
02:47 <Ratchet-> are you on windows hoop?
02:47 <Monkey_arma> behave hoop i know you are from Microsoft
02:47 <Ratchet-> /slap monkey

02:48 <Ratchet-> :)
02:48 <hoop> no Im on ubuntu
02:48 <Monkey_arma> ratchet, epsy, ivantis and others learnt with ubuntu
02:48 <Monkey_arma> in fact ivantis is your age
02:48 <Ratchet-> i believe you can install linux on windows?
02:48 <Ratchet-> right?
02:48 <Monkey_arma> no
02:48 <Ratchet-> :\
02:48 <hoop> you can
02:48 <Monkey_arma> you can have both on the hard disk
02:48 <Ratchet-> so you expect me to buy another computer?
02:48 <Ratchet-> ha
02:48 <Monkey_arma> there is cygwin but its complicated
02:49 <Ratchet-> money dont grow on trees
02:49 <Monkey_arma> i have windows Millenium edition and also linux on my hard disk
02:49 <Monkey_arma> are you reading what i am saying?
02:49 <Ratchet-> yes
02:49 <Ratchet-> :P
02:49 <hoop> you can install linux under windows with VMware
02:49 <Monkey_arma> dont confuse him
02:49 <hoop> that's a good choice
02:49 <Ratchet-> will it push my laptop to the limit with memory etc?
02:50 <Monkey_arma> vmware will push it
02:50 <Ratchet-> what about uninstalling
02:50 <Monkey_arma> i *strongly* recommend having both on your hard disk
02:50 <Ratchet-> possible?
02:50 <Monkey_arma> you can alter the "partitions" on your hard disk
02:50 <Monkey_arma> ubuntu should help you do that
02:50 <Monkey_arma> so you split your hard disk up into 2 sections
02:51 <Monkey_arma> one for Windows, one for linux
02:51 <Monkey_arma> what computer have you got?
02:51 <xfroggy_tr> so i install beta tron...lol, after a few times of clicking 'f' windowed/full, my windowed version is completely gone from the desktop somewhere high
02:51 <Ratchet-> which one runs defaiultly
02:51 <Ratchet-> defaultly
02:51 <Monkey_arma> Ratchet- you can alter that
02:51 <Monkey_arma> on mine i get a menu to choose at the start
02:52 <Ratchet-> is linux COMPLETEly different?
02:52 <xfroggy_tr> yes
02:52 <Ratchet-> will i die trying to figure it out/
02:52 <Monkey_arma> yes and no
02:52 <xfroggy_tr> yes
02:52 <Monkey_arma> the underlying is different
02:52 <Ratchet-> so if i install this
02:52 <Ratchet-> and enable
02:52 <Monkey_arma> but ubuntu will make it nice for u
02:52 <Ratchet-> and cant work it
02:52 <Ratchet-> i die
02:52 <Monkey_arma> and you can just do mostly click with mouse
02:52 <xfroggy_tr> rip Ratchet-
02:52 <Ratchet-> lol -.-
02:52 <xfroggy_tr> :D
02:52 <Ratchet-> so how much space all this take
02:52 <Ratchet-> -.-
02:52 <Monkey_arma> Ratchet- they are being naughty, ignore them
02:53 <Ratchet-> i got about 25gb left :X
02:53 <Monkey_arma> i have a 20 Gig hard disk
02:53 <Monkey_arma> with windows and 2 linuxes on
02:53 <Ratchet-> 60gb total
02:53 <Ratchet-> how about you?
02:53 <Ratchet-> so your TOTAL space is 20?
02:53 <Monkey_arma> mine is 20gig total
02:53 <Monkey_arma> ye
02:53 <Ratchet-> wow..
02:53 <Ratchet-> so 60 will work
02:53 <Ratchet-> kay
02:54 <Ratchet-> k so i download linux and ubuntu?
02:54 <Monkey_arma> ubuntu is one "distribution" of linuix
02:54 <xfroggy_tr> just ubuntu
02:54 <Ratchet-> and windows will be the same, but i can enable a linux thing and have a totally new computer
02:54 <Ratchet-> =-o
02:54 <Ratchet-> sounds like fun
02:54 <Monkey_arma> with windows you just have one type, which is called "windows"
02:54 <Ratchet-> are my programs still here or what..
02:55 <xfroggy_tr> i believe you will be left with no computer afterwords :D
02:55 <Ratchet-> =P
02:55 <Monkey_arma> there are different types of linux, called distributions
02:55 <Ratchet-> what is linux programming code
02:55 <Monkey_arma> they each come with different software (but most have the same basic stuff) and different setup
02:55 <Ratchet-> btw hoop you still here
02:56 <Monkey_arma> linux is written in C i think
02:56 <Ratchet-> so hoop has both but programs on windows ?
02:56 <Monkey_arma> no
02:56 <hoop> I've completely removed windows
02:56 <Monkey_arma> linux itself is made in C but when using linux for programming you can use any language
02:57 <Ratchet-> so therefore i can program in c++ on windows?
02:57 <hoop> sure
02:57 <Ratchet-> but another thing, microsoft makes its tools for windows
02:57 <Ratchet-> will linux take that
02:58 <Monkey_arma> linux has all the tools you could want for free
02:58 <Ratchet-> I guess my main.... er..... confusion is
02:58 <Monkey_arma> i dont use any MS tools
02:58 <Ratchet-> what good is linux over windows
02:58 <Monkey_arma> its more reliable and everything is free
02:58 <luke-jr> …
02:58 <Ratchet-> i understand windows like 100%
02:58 <luke-jr> everything?
02:58 <hoop> first It's less painful
02:59 <luke-jr> Monkey_arma: Windows has more than one type
02:59 <hoop> but windows doesn't understand you XD
02:59 <xfroggy_tr> windows rapes u blindly :O
02:59 <luke-jr> it has like Home, Business, Ultimate, etc
02:59 <Ratchet-> still not answering
02:59 <Monkey_arma> luke-jr ???
02:59 <Ratchet-> what are benefits to linux
02:59 <Ratchet-> ....
02:59 <Ratchet-> i r happy with windows
03:00 <luke-jr> Ratchet-: EVERYTHING
03:00 <Monkey_arma> they are the same just with more or less stuff
03:00 <luke-jr> more applications run on Linux
03:00 <luke-jr> Linux supports more hardware
03:00 <Monkey_arma> linux is *free* and *trustworthy* and does not crash much
03:00 <luke-jr> etc
03:00 <Ratchet-> ok so like i delete everything i put onto windows and get it on linux?
03:00 <Monkey_arma> Ratchet- no keep windows also
03:00 <luke-jr> Ratchet-: specifically?
03:00 <luke-jr> Monkey_arma: f that, get rid of Windows
03:00 <Ratchet-> so jsut leave windows like it is
03:00 <xfroggy_tr> luke-jr: :D
03:01 <Ratchet-> ugh
03:01 <hoop> Ratchet-: what you use the comp for?
03:01 <luke-jr> where is Lucifer when you feel like talking to him?
03:01 <luke-jr> sigh
03:01 <Monkey_arma> luke-jr no he needs to keep windows
03:01 <Ratchet-> msn tron internet
03:01 <luke-jr> Monkey_arma: no
03:01 <xfroggy_tr> no he doesn't
03:01 <luke-jr> Ratchet-: MSN is fail sucks
03:01 <xfroggy_tr> Ratchet-: format C:\
03:01 <Ratchet-> i am not getting rid of windwos
03:01 <luke-jr> Ratchet-: the Internet is Linux, not Windows
03:01 <Monkey_arma> even my printer and scanner dont work on linux
03:01 <luke-jr> GodTodd: you got a way to contact Luci?
03:02 <hoop> if you use the comp just for that linux is far better than windows
03:02 <luke-jr> Monkey_arma: that's your fault
03:02 <hoax> Ratchet-: watch out u about to make a lifestyle choice
03:02 <Monkey_arma> luke-jr i got them free...
03:02 <Ratchet-> i'd like to use windows for programming, unless linux can have the tools i want
03:02 <luke-jr> Monkey_arma: what models?
03:02 <luke-jr> Monkey_arma: Linux supports far more printers and scanners than Windows
03:02 <Monkey_arma> Ratchet- linux is made for programming
03:02 <luke-jr> Ratchet-: programming on Windows is a pain
03:02 <Monkey_arma> luke-jr Lexmark Z22 printer, visioneer 440 scanner
03:03 <hoop> Ratchet-: linux is a better platform for programming
03:03 <Ratchet-> so everyone here uses linux?
03:03 <hoop> kinda
03:03 <luke-jr> yep
03:03 <luke-jr> lol
03:03 <Monkey_arma> <-- linux
03:03 <luke-jr> Linux or Mac
03:03 <Ratchet-> so:
03:03 <Monkey_arma> they use linux or BSD or mac (same thing really)
03:03 <luke-jr> I don't know who makes the Windows arma builds
03:03 <Ratchet-> i delete everything that is luxory on windows and get on linux?
03:03 <Monkey_arma> all are unix-like
03:03 <madmax> there's also those guys who think they're cool with OS X
03:03 <hoop> lol
03:03 <Monkey_arma> back in your box please max
03:03 <luke-jr> Ratchet-: backup and important files, like documents and stuff
03:04 * madmax falls back
03:04 <luke-jr> Ratchet-: then you can install a good OS fresh
03:04 <Monkey_arma> can we make sure the mac people are locked away securely please..thx
03:04 * Ratchet- =-o
03:04 <Ratchet-> lol
03:04 <hoop> #hug madmax

03:05 <luke-jr> Ratchet-: Linux itself is only about 10 MB
03:05 <luke-jr> wtf *are* you downloading?
03:05 <Ratchet-> i r getting ubuntu
03:05 <Ratchet-> ..
03:05 <luke-jr> Ubuntu is fail
03:05 <luke-jr> if any *buntu, get Kubuntu
03:05 <Monkey_arma> ignore luke

15:33 <hoop> hmm, where u live StickyNoob
15:33 <StickyNoob> i stopped burning to cds after i actualy stacked up all the old distro cds up and realised how many ive wasted
15:34 <StickyNoob> hoop: england
15:34 <hoop> hmmm, too far I'm sorry X)
15:34 <StickyNoob> then i learnt how to install from a partition
15:34 <luke-jr> I'd rather waste CDs than DVDs ;p
15:34 <hoop> yea, I hate burning cds
15:35 <hoop> luke-jr, I have no cds atm :P
15:35 <hoax> -R anyone?..^^
15:35 <luke-jr> these days, I just get Ubuntu to ship me printed Kubuntu CDs
15:35 <StickyNoob> hoop: does the computer already have a distro installed on it?
15:35 <hoop> ubuntu
15:35 <StickyNoob> install from a partiton then
15:35 <luke-jr> hoop: aptitude install kubuntu-desktop
15:36 <hoop> i was wondering if I could just install kde too
15:36 <hoop> ^^
15:36 <StickyNoob> yes you can
15:36 <StickyNoob> luke-jr: you a kubuntu man?
15:36 <hoop> will it ptrompt me at start?
15:36 <luke-jr> no
15:36 <luke-jr> *buntu doesn't support any of my hardware
15:36 <luke-jr> crappy stuff :þ
15:36 <luke-jr> hoop: probably will add it to the login screen's menu or such
15:36 <StickyNoob> aww
15:36 <hoop> too old hardware? :P
15:37 <luke-jr> hoop: not really, *buntu just has really crappy hardware support
15:37 <StickyNoob> kubuntu works great for me
15:37 <StickyNoob> they use a reasonably recent kernel dont they?
15:37 <luke-jr> I've never found a single system *buntu worked properly on
15:37 <hoop> you're not nerd enough then XD
15:37 <luke-jr> the closest I found was one where only wifi was broken
15:38 <hoop> what you on luke-jr ?
15:38 <luke-jr> Gentoo
15:38 <StickyNoob> RICER
15:38 <hoop> baaah that sucks
15:38 <luke-jr> *buntu sucks too
15:38 <luke-jr> just in different ways ;p
15:38 <luke-jr> every OS sucks
15:38 <StickyNoob> yeah ubuntu has its problems
15:38 <hoop> jk, I don't even farly know gentoo
15:39 <luke-jr> hoop: Gentoo is high maintenance
15:39 <luke-jr> you MUST keep it up to date
15:39 <luke-jr> and doing so often requires manual fixing of problems
15:39 <StickyNoob> hoop: its a lot more "hands on" than things like ubuntu, suse, mandrake
15:39 <hoop> how about debian?
15:39 <StickyNoob> debian is ubuntu
15:39 <luke-jr> Debian is basically *buntu, but you don't need to be an idiot
15:40 <StickyNoob> actualy ill rephrase that
15:40 <luke-jr> lol
15:40 <hoop> fedora?
15:40 <StickyNoob> ubuntu is debian
15:40 <luke-jr> Fedora is a waste of time
15:40 <hoop> ^^
15:40 <luke-jr> bbl
15:41 <hoop> so, I guess you download an ISO, create a partition, put the ISO in there and launch it?
15:41 <StickyNoob> ubuntu take 99.9% of debian then add some nicetys for the less l33t users
15:41 <StickyNoob> hoop: yes, you have to point grub at it
15:41 <hoax> just get ubuntu
15:42 <hoop> already
15:42 <hoax> you can even load it from your windows partition these days
15:42 <hoop> I don't like it so much, but I don't want to care about maintenance
15:42 <hoax> since when did it read ntfs :o
15:42 <hoax> hoop you used linux before?

18:41 <aa_voodoo> I was looking to merge last sty branche revisions to sty+ct but it's really tricky now
18:42 <epsy> erm, changes happened on the 0.2.8 branch, you should merge them directly from there
18:45 <aa_voodoo> Well, I had to branch from sty to get the sty patch ... Now the point is that I have no idea which revision was the last we get from the sty branch as the only thing I had is a revesion n° from sty and they are not the same anymore ..
18:47 <aa_voodoo> I guess that's the shuffling issue zman talked about when he's tested bzr

This is an LLM-free zone. In general, I am unwilling to use (fight with) any form of "GenAI" to write code for me. So, for the forseeable future, everything on this site will continue to be written by a very silly goose (wait that's me honk honk) with some parts written by other humans as well (silly hu-mon) rather than any plausible-series-of-words token-eating machine. Even my libraries are out of date, and suddenly that's a good thing!
(Although the style has changed several times and content has been added and changed, the base of this site has barely been updated since 2015. But it Ain't Broke!)
This site is also occasionally tested with older browsers, but compatibility is not guarenteed. Although, if you have an old obscure browser and something isn't working that previously did, I guess you can tell me (nelg) about it...
