[16:12:22] <Z-Man> So my wife got a new Laptop, meaning her old one is going to be Z-Girl's first own computer.
[16:12:47] <Z-Man> It's a 32 bit only single core Atom CPU with two gigs of RAM.
[16:13:34] <Z-Man> I'm planning to install CentOS on it, due to its long support time and still supporting 32 bit installs.
[16:14:32] <Z-Man> GUI is going to be XFCE. Reasonably lean, but still fancy enough that I'm using it on my big box myself without regrets.
[16:16:43] <Z-Man> CentOS 8 came out last year, with maintenance until 2029. She should be out of school by then (and probably have a better computer anyway :) )
[16:20:08] <Z-Man> Anyone want to slap me for missing an obviously superior alternative to that OS choice?
[16:22:08] <Z-Man> (Oh, just noticed 32 bit CentOS is only on CentOS 7, expiring 2024. Still better than anything else I checked.)
[16:46:52] <Z-Man> Hmm, Debian 10 is still an option. Extended support probably also until 2024, and starts off with fresher software (I ASSUME). And AFAIK, they haven't even announced they'll drop 32 bit any time soon, so there is at least the possibility Debian 11 and 12 will keep working.
