03:41 <Monkey_arma> Lucifer, you should know...How can you make a server that has already appeard on the master list, not appear on the master list? changing TALK_TO_MASTER does not work.
03:43 <Lucifer> change its port and restart it
03:43 <Lucifer> also changing talk_to_master only works if you change it in config and restart it
03:43 <Monkey_arma> i thought that .
03:43 <Lucifer> however, if you keep the port the same, the master server will continue pinging the server and keep it listed
03:43 <Monkey_arma> so arma just used the one port as default or a range?
03:43 <Lucifer> so you have to make your server unavailable to the master server completely by changing its port
03:44 <Lucifer> it has a default port, but there's a config item to change it
03:44 <Monkey_arma> right so that would be in server_info.cfg?
03:44 <Lucifer> that's where it goes :)
03:45 <Monkey_arma> :) thanks..nice one. So just change the setting in that file is enough..nowhere else?
03:45 <Lucifer> as long as you don't have it anywhere else, that should be fine
03:45 <Lucifer> but if you have it also in settings_custom.cfg, then you should remove it from there
03:46 <Monkey_arma> right ok..and it shouldnt be in any other file because they should not be editted anywya
03:46 <Lucifer> as far as what you're concerned about, port/server name/network settings/client limits should all be in server_info.cfg and nowhere else
03:46 <Monkey_arma> agreed
03:46 <Monkey_arma> thx
03:46 <Lucifer> the basic test is "If somebody wanted to setup a clone of my server, can I send them settings_custom.cfg?"
03:47 <Lucifer> np

19:22 <wrtlprnft> epsy: they don't care ;-)
19:22 <Lucifer> they're too busy trying to prevent people from stealing their stuff
19:22 <wrtlprnft> same with sites that use a frameset with just one large frame to make the URI look pretty
19:22 <Lucifer> back then it was Mozilla that just collapsed the chrome and let you click a button to get it back that saved the day :)
19:23 <Lucifer> my school disables the right mouse button on every public computer
19:23 <Lucifer> it's really a pain
19:23 <Lucifer> in computer labs and stuff, where people are expected to do work, they don't disable it
19:24 <Lucifer> but since I take my portableapps-loaded flash drive and use that, I don't have any serious problems with it anymore
19:24 <Lucifer> it's only the software installed on their computers that's intentionally broken, my stuff is fully functional
19:25 <Lucifer> I used to know a girl who trapped the right-click event on webpages and suppressed it, to prevent people from copy/pasting
19:25 <Lucifer> so I showed her how I could use keyboard shortcuts, and she found a way around that
19:25 <Lucifer> then I showed her how to middle-click in Linux and she gave up :)
19:27 <wrtlprnft> globally disabling the right mouse button?

19:28 <Monkey_arma> http://forums.armagetronad.net/viewtopic.php?t=18403
19:29 <Lucifer> er, he's actively recruiting kids....
19:29 <Monkey_arma> ...
19:30 <Lucifer> his club is running on a LAN server
19:30 <Monkey_arma> "you might find some new blood appearing on the grid sometime..."
19:31 <Lucifer> kids go home, say "look at this game we played at school", downloads it, plays it, appears on the grid....
19:31 * Lucifer doesn't see how this can be a problem
19:32 <Monkey_arma> ok well if for every kid he recruits, he recruits an adult too then its ok
19:32 <Lucifer> why does he have to recruit adults too?
19:32 <Monkey_arma> of course kids should play

19:33 <Monkey_arma> but the servers get silly when its all kids
19:33 <Lucifer> then you play on a different server for a little while if you don't feel like babysitting
19:33 <Lucifer> me, I don't mind playing with kids, it's adults taht I have to babysit that really annoy me
19:34 <Monkey_arma> some adults are like kids ye
19:34 <Lucifer> fortress is a good environment for team building exercises, I think 2020's doing a wonderful thing
19:34 <Monkey_arma> it has its points
19:34 <Monkey_arma> just the mass influx might be overwhelming
19:35 <Monkey_arma> we average not many on the servers
19:35 <Lucifer> heh, we'll be fine. He's only talking 20 kids or so, we can handle that
19:35 <Lucifer> we've taken worse in the past, with fewer servers and much crappier network code
19:35 <Monkey_arma> he is 2020..he is nutzor..he wants 1million tronners
19:36 <Monkey_arma> "news headline: entire school plays tron"
19:36 <Lucifer> well, with the current ratio of tronners/servers, we'll probably have 900,000 servers when we have 1 million tronners

19:36 <Lucifer> yeah, well, we'll burn that bridge when we come to it

• Website was created by nelg
• Design:
» Layout is loosely based on an old design by Durf.
» Icons on the tools page were originally by Royce, new icons added will try to follow some of the design language.
» Various other icon selections include icons from Crystal, crystalsvg, oxygen, and breeze icon themes.
» Other icons: fontawesome

is a site that has tools, maps, and other various items. It orignally only existed as a server control panel, but I slowly began adding stuff such as a homepage and tools.

This is an LLM-free zone. In general, I am unwilling to use (fight with) any form of "GenAI" to write code for me. So, for the forseeable future, everything on this site will continue to be written by a very silly goose (wait that's me honk honk) with some parts written by other humans as well (silly hu-mon) rather than any plausible-series-of-words token-eating machine. Even my libraries are out of date, and suddenly that's a good thing!
(Although the style has changed several times and content has been added and changed, the base of this site has barely been updated since 2015. But it Ain't Broke!)
This site is also occasionally tested with older browsers, but compatibility is not guarenteed. Although, if you have an old obscure browser and something isn't working that previously did, I guess you can tell me (nelg) about it...
