00:02 <wrtlprnft> what the hell is a joyball?
00:02 <epsy> idk
00:02 <epsy> was wondering myself
00:02 <wrtlprnft> wikipedia doesn't know about it
00:02 <wrtlprnft> so it can't exist
00:03 <epsy> hrhr
00:03 <wrtlprnft> “„if it's not in the archives, it doesn't exist”
00:03 * wrtlprnft should stop quoting star wars
00:11 <philippeqc> wrtlprnft should stop quoting the bad part of star wars mostly!
00:11 <epsy> heh
00:12 <wrtlprnft> missa thinkin…
00:12 <wrtlprnft> or is it messa thinking?
00:13 <philippeqc> its exactly the kind of thing one doesnt want associated with his nick for as long as Internet exist!
00:13 <wrtlprnft> meh.
00:14 <philippeqc> Rule 17 of Internet: Don't quote Jar-Jar. Ever!
00:15 <philippeqc> it actually pushed down "Don't write using only caps!". Thats how important it is!
00:15 * epsy writes only lowercase
00:15 <madmax> maybe it's a ... trackball?
00:15 <wrtlprnft> HAHA LOLZ WTF OMG!!!
00:16 <philippeqc> you managed to spell it wrong!
00:16 <epsy> LOK IM ROLF MAO GETTIN IN HIS ROFLCOPTER LULZ
00:17 <philippeqc> in CAPS-TALK, 3 exclamations points are always folled by at least a '1'.
00:17 <epsy> !!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111ONE11111
00:17 <wrtlprnft> i deliberately omitted that
00:17 <wrtlprnft> to annoy you
00:17 <philippeqc> When do you think OpenOffice and MS-Word will have a CAPS-TALK spell-checker?
00:17 <philippeqc> ;)
00:18 <epsy> when someone does it?
00:18 <wrtlprnft> those 1337 p33p5 don't use word
00:20 <philippeqc> Well, they do have a copied version on their hard-drive, so someone of them is bound to use it at some time.

03:16 <StickyNoob> #rating madmax
03:16 <armabot> StickyNoob: madmax is 120th with a rating of 1592-1645 (from 1597-1653)
03:16 <StickyNoob> where is it getting these from?
03:16 <StickyNoob> is there a web interface?
03:19 <luke-jr> http://ratings.armagetronad.net
03:21 <StickyNoob> hmm mostly dominated buy rubber players
03:21 <StickyNoob> suppose there is sasha there
03:22 <luke-jr> well, since most servers are rubber, that makes sense
03:22 <luke-jr> people are "forced" to play rubber even when they're better without it
03:22 <StickyNoob> isnt the score normalised to the amount of time you have played for?
03:23 <luke-jr> amount of time played does not affect ratings directly
03:23 <StickyNoob> hmm
03:23 <luke-jr> though the RD defaults to a large value
03:23 <StickyNoob> i would have thought total points/time played would be a good heuristic
03:23 <luke-jr> #rating wrtltest1
03:24 <armabot> luke-jr: wrtltest1 is 2754th with a rating of 1150-1850
03:24 <luke-jr> 1150-1850 is the default range
03:24 <luke-jr> #rating luke-jr
03:24 <armabot> luke-jr: luke-jr is 896th with a rating of 1438-1484 (from 1468-1512)
03:24 <luke-jr> ☹
03:24 <StickyNoob> whats the range?
03:25 <luke-jr> it is 95% likely a person's skill level falls within the range
03:25 <StickyNoob> any chance of getting the raw data that generates these stats?
03:25 <luke-jr> what raw data?
03:25 <StickyNoob> generated on the fly?
03:25 <luke-jr> yes
03:25 <StickyNoob> hmm dam
03:26 <luke-jr> the database stores 8 values per player+system
03:26 <luke-jr> internal official: rating, deviation, volatility
03:26 <luke-jr> internal live: rating, deviation, volatility, v, delta
03:27 <StickyNoob> i still recon i can train a neural network to identify good play and rate people
03:27 <luke-jr> the latter two are the variables used by the endless loop of a player's rating
03:28 <luke-jr> tbh, I really don't understand how it works myself ☺
03:28 <luke-jr> http://math.bu.edu/people/mg/glicko/glicko2.doc/ if you want to try
03:29 <luke-jr> that is the algorithm I've implemented
03:29 <StickyNoob> hmm the maths dosent look too bad, but TRUELY understanding these things is always difficult
03:31 <luke-jr> I don't even try to truly understand it
03:31 <luke-jr> it was designed by a math professor for crying out loud! :þ
03:31 <StickyNoob> heh
03:31 <luke-jr> I'm just happy I understand what those symbols mean
03:32 <luke-jr> so I can turn them into code
03:32 -!- z-man [n=manuel@p508712BB.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] has quit [Read error: 113 (No route to host)]
03:32 <luke-jr> and then after 3 or 4 refactors, have something where it computes the values on the fly
03:32 <StickyNoob> one of the best things i deal with is a statistical filter called the kalman filter, you can piss off anyone who works with them by asking them how they work, half the time the reply is magic
03:33 <luke-jr> O.o
03:33 <luke-jr> you a maths guy?
03:33 <StickyNoob> not realy, an enginner
03:33 <luke-jr> ok
03:34 <luke-jr> you can get the Glicko2 values with the raw_rating cmd tho
03:34 <luke-jr> via telnet or such
03:35 <luke-jr> heh
03:35 <StickyNoob> telnet?
03:35 <luke-jr> to ratings.armagetronad.net port 9999
03:35 <luke-jr> it would be cool to hack Arma so instead of showing a cycle's name, it also shows a % chance of winning against them
03:36 <luke-jr> so I can get away from the pros and pwn people I have 65%+ chance at
03:36 <StickyNoob> hhmmm i get "Connected to hachi.dashjr.org" then nothing
03:37 <luke-jr> raw_rating |x|_sticky
03:37 <StickyNoob> ahh
03:37 <StickyNoob> thats just durka durka land and CTWF

09:51 <philippeqc> at least i have a class that would allow better network updates!
09:55 <philippeqc> its a polynomial class. Sadly, its only for well, single value polynomial, so no sin or cos.
09:55 <philippeqc> but now that I have isolated the prob, someone might be able to exchange this class for a more general equation one.

10:38 <freako02> haha, but still you are right with the ordering
10:39 <freako02> #lastseen legio
10:39 <armabot> freako02: timed out
10:39 <luke-jr> if I move the db to MySQL at some point, that might cease to be true
10:39 <freako02> how its storen now then?
10:40 <luke-jr> right now, I'm using Sqlite
10:40 <luke-jr> it's a 4.1 MB database
10:43 <freako02> but why would MySQL do it wrong? If it goes wrong there can be assigned numbers to every rename, keeping it in order
10:44 <luke-jr> who said it was wrong?
10:44 <luke-jr> there is no reason it should be in any order
10:44 <luke-jr> MySQL could store it differently for efficiency reasons, and it wouldn't be violating any rule
10:45 <luke-jr> for example, it might store it alphabetically to quicken locating names
10:45 <freako02> why are we doing this? does the order matter? we both think not?
10:46 <freako02> how many names it stores actually?
10:46 <luke-jr> ?
10:46 <luke-jr> 5284 names
10:46 <freako02> how much names it stores and can show with aka?
10:47 <luke-jr> 4103 UIDs
10:47 <luke-jr> any number of names can be associated with a uid
10:48 <wrtlprnft> at most 2^120 names per userid actually
10:48 <luke-jr> ?
10:49 <freako02> wrtl that would be xtreme :(
10:49 <luke-jr> SELECT name FROM names WHERE uid = ?
10:49 <luke-jr> that's the query aka uses
10:49 <wrtlprnft> well, there's ac tually less than 2^120 possible names in arma
10:49 <wrtlprnft> far less, come to think about it
10:49 <luke-jr> heh
10:49 <luke-jr> not once you add that utf8 code
10:49 <luke-jr> and filtered names are permitted utf8 chars
10:50 <luke-jr> I think
10:50 <wrtlprnft> well, we don't have utf8 support yet
10:50 <luke-jr> when will it be merged?
10:50 <luke-jr> I forget what the blockers were?
10:51 <luke-jr> just backward compatibility, maybe
10:53 * luke-jr ponders purging the unnamable uids
10:53 <freako02> #lasteen legio
10:53 <luke-jr> #aka ¿2511
10:53 <armabot> luke-jr: ¿2511
10:53 <luke-jr> like that one
10:55 <wrtlprnft> luke-jr: dunno actually
10:56 <luke-jr> 173 of those right now
10:56 <wrtlprnft> one problem iirc is that the connection type that's used for the server browser doesn't carry the client's version
10:57 <wrtlprnft> so the server can't know whether to send utf-8 names or not
10:57 <wrtlprnft> actually the request to get a server's name doesn't carry any info at all
10:57 <wrtlprnft> it's 6 bytes long :P
10:58 <wrtlprnft> of which 2 bytes indicate the request's length, 2 indicate that you want to get the server info, and 2 bytes are unused
10:59 <wrtlprnft> on the other hand, two extra bytes shouldn't harm old servers
11:00 <luke-jr> wrtlprnft: so XMPP at the same time would work

• Website was created by nelg
• Design:
» Layout is loosely based on an old design by Durf.
» Icons on the tools page were originally by Royce, new icons added will try to follow some of the design language.
» Various other icon selections include icons from Crystal, crystalsvg, oxygen, and breeze icon themes.
» Other icons: fontawesome

is a site that has tools, maps, and other various items. It orignally only existed as a server control panel, but I slowly began adding stuff such as a homepage and tools.

This is an LLM-free zone. In general, I am unwilling to use (fight with) any form of "GenAI" to write code for me. So, for the forseeable future, everything on this site will continue to be written by a very silly goose (wait that's me honk honk) with some parts written by other humans as well (silly hu-mon) rather than any plausible-series-of-words token-eating machine. Even my libraries are out of date, and suddenly that's a good thing!
(Although the style has changed several times and content has been added and changed, the base of this site has barely been updated since 2015. But it Ain't Broke!)
This site is also occasionally tested with older browsers, but compatibility is not guarenteed. Although, if you have an old obscure browser and something isn't working that previously did, I guess you can tell me (nelg) about it...
