01:40 <spidey> doing what normal people do?
01:40 <dsop> obviously
01:40 <Lucifer_arma> reading through mailing list postings trying to find out why my program is hanging when creating a QSvgRenderer?
01:40 <spidey> dude
01:40 <spidey> i'm 2 colors
01:40 <Lucifer_arma> it would be a lot easier if the pyqt guy just hung out in #qt
01:41 <spidey> my right arm, and half my face is tan

01:41 <spidey> how'd you know ? XD
01:41 <Lucifer_arma> happens to me every summer :)
01:41 <dsop> well i try to figure out how the arma network protocol for receiving serverlists work
01:41 <Lucifer_arma> only reverse, because I'm driving
01:41 <spidey> my brother didn't finish his books so i had to sit there for a hour at the testing center
01:42 <spidey> i looked weird then
01:42 <spidey> because i was red instead of tan
01:42 <Lucifer_arma> maybe if I upgrade my qt to 4.3 and rebuild pyqt my problem will just magically go away

01:45 <dsop> Lucifer_arma: i just want to know how the protocol works, without reading through the complete source code
01:45 <dsop> or at least somebody giving me a hint
01:45 <dsop> how to read a server list from the master server
01:45 -!- tronner [n=CT@eal109.neoplus.adsl.tpnet.pl] has quit [Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer)]

01:46 <armabot> P4: Error: There is no command "re".
01:46 <Lucifer_arma> if those are still there, they might help
01:46 <P4> .re
01:46 <Lucifer_arma> otherwise, there's only two other places I know you can look
01:46 <Lucifer_arma> one is to dig out tank's php script that polls the master server, and the other is (you guessed it) reading arma's source code directly
01:46 <tronner> P4: (re <regexp> <text>) -- If <regexp> is of the form m/regexp/flags, returns the portion of <text> that matches the regexp. If <regexp> is of the form s/regexp/replacement/flags, returns the result of applying such a regexp to <text>
01:47 <Lucifer_arma> dsop: I suggest you get really well-acquainted with the svn repository browser sourceforge provides :)
01:47 <P4> im sorry about that bit of spam, was wonder if arma can play with regexp :}
01:47 <Lucifer_arma> google has a code search in their labs you might try
01:48 <Lucifer_arma> P4: more than likely you need to give regex's in python syntax, which is slightly different than regular regexs
01:48 <dsop> yeah, thats enough hint, i dont know why i didnt think about searching the serverlist->xml php script in the repos :D
01:48 <dsop> thx a lot
01:48 <Lucifer_arma> np
01:48 <Lucifer_arma> now, can *you* tell me why my program is hanging? ;)
01:48 <P4> i know there's 2 kind of regexp, perl one and posix one. you want to tell me there's 3rd kind of pyton one?
01:48 <dsop> Lucifer_arma: if u tell me whats the problem :)
01:48 <dsop> or what happens
01:48 <Lucifer_arma> P4: it's possible python uses posix format, I didn't know there was a difference
01:49 <Lucifer_arma> dsop: simple. It hangs on this line:
01:49 <P4> i see
01:49 <Lucifer_arma> __renderers[path] = QtSvg.QSvgRenderer(path)

20:40 <guru3> so the wiki should be using the images off its server now?
20:40 <wrtlprnft> yeah
20:40 <guru3> ok
20:40 <wrtlprnft> so the images won't be unavailable if the wiki isn't as well
20:40 <guru3> roger
20:42 <guru3> dinner now. then the fun joy of checking the forums afterwards xD
20:42 <wrtlprnft> cya

21:48 <wrtlprnft> I dunno. But I guess you need to install from source
21:49 <vinavil> yea, i supposed it

22:19 <wrtlprnft> the code for the old explosions still exists, it's just commented out :D
22:20 <wrtlprnft> but they're ugly and buggy. I love how you can't see cycles
22:20 <wrtlprnft> http://wrtlprnft.ath.cx/arma/screenshot_601.png is especially bad
22:22 <Lucifer_arma> old explosions?
22:23 <Lucifer_arma> you mean there were explosions before we had the lines?
22:23 <wrtlprnft> yeah
22:24 <wrtlprnft> http://armagetron.sourceforge.net/old/screenshots.html
22:24 <wrtlprnft> under “Earlier screenshots in two player mode:”
22:26 <Lucifer_arma> hey, those are kinda neat
22:26 <Lucifer_arma> it might be worth uncommenting that code sometime and seeing if it can be made to work :)
22:26 * Lucifer_arma guesses there's no accounting for taste
22:26 <wrtlprnft> it's buggy!
22:27 <Lucifer_arma> oh no! Not that! Anything but that!
22:27 <wrtlprnft> i did that to generate the screenshots i linked to
22:27 <wrtlprnft> http://wrtlprnft.ath.cx/arma/?min=592&max=601
22:27 <wrtlprnft> sort of skewed for some reason, but you can see the issues
22:28 <Lucifer_arma> yeah
22:28 <Lucifer_arma> I guess what I liked was the idea of a growing dome of light, your collection of screenshots doesn't show it that way
22:28 * wrtlprnft is surprised you didn't know of that commented out block. You made that particle attempt which is like 20 lines away from it, after all
22:29 * Lucifer_arma ignores the big commented blocks unless something catches his eye
22:29 <wrtlprnft> i just joined CTWF and randomly pressed the screenshot button whenever explosions were visible
22:29 <Lucifer_arma> probably not the best policy
22:29 <wrtlprnft> the gluSphere call cought my eye
22:31 <wrtlprnft> actually, is it “cought” or “caught”?
22:31 <wrtlprnft> #google fight caught cought
22:31 <armabot> wrtlprnft: caught: 108000000, cought: 509000
22:31 <wrtlprnft> i guess it's the latter…
22:51 * epsy switches to xchat aqua

22:57 <epsy> aaah
22:58 <epsy> now got a working client
23:02 <wrtlprnft> wait a sec
23:02 <wrtlprnft> just realized that
23:02 <wrtlprnft> digitx used google to solve a problem that wasn't even his?
23:04 <madmax|pt> o_O
23:06 <wrtlprnft> and i love if wine manages to start a program that changes the resolution, then crashes. It's just so great if the screen is so small you can't reach the OK button of the dialog to change the resolution: http://wrtlprnft.ath.cx/greatres.png
23:17 <epsy> o really ?
23:17 <epsy> xD
23:17 <epsy> well, the screen scolls here then
23:17 <wrtlprnft> sometimes does for me, too
23:17 <epsy> always does here :P
23:18 <epsy> ()well, at home)
23:18 <wrtlprnft> can you imagine how bad it looks if that little image is scaled up to 1280×800 using a crappy interpolation algorithm?
23:18 <wrtlprnft> not to mention that it's nonproportional

23:22 <epsy> stupid quit messages ads
23:22 <wrtlprnft> too lazy and too happy with kde i guess
23:23 <epsy> i said kdeenlightenment, not pure enlightenment
23:23 <wrtlprnft> what's that?
23:24 <epsy> kde with enlightenment as window manager
23:25 <wrtlprnft> does enlightment have the ability to set window-specific settings? For example I like to have opera always appear without window decorations filling the entire screen
23:25 <epsy> yes of course
23:26 <epsy> you can set many things liek that
23:26 <Lucifer_arma> heh, I thought I was the only psycho that liked a large web browser
23:26 <Lucifer_arma> I wound up leaving the window decoration to make it so I could actually see the download dialog when I need to
23:27 <Lucifer_arma> but if it weren't for the panel, I'd make firefox a desktop level window
23:27 <Lucifer_arma> so the show desktop button would bring up firefox :)
23:27 <wrtlprnft> if you substract tab- and sidebar it's not that large anymore :x
23:27 <Lucifer_arma> ? tab and sidebar?
23:28 <epsy> there'S a pin to desktop option too
23:28 <Lucifer_arma> well, the problem here is that the panel is allowed to extend over desktop level windows, which covers up the right scrollbar
23:30 <epsy> you can put it under ALL
23:31 <wrtlprnft> http://wrtlprnft.ath.cx/standardoperasession.png
23:31 <wrtlprnft> that's what opera looks like for me
23:31 <wrtlprnft> just with actual tabs, not just blank ones
23:31 <epsy> yep ?
23:32 <deja_vu> *g*
23:34 <epsy> i'm off

23:36 <wrtlprnft> it's a plot!
23:36 <luke-jr_work> 640x480 is a nice size for browsers

23:40 <deja_vu> wrtlprnft: imagine ~40 tabs in a single line ;)
23:40 <wrtlprnft> don't need to, i can just change the settings of my browser to see it
23:41 <deja_vu> hehe
23:41 <wrtlprnft> not enough space to display the favicon
23:41 <wrtlprnft> of every page
23:41 <wrtlprnft> OTOH, my skin is a bit wasteful horizontally
23:42 <deja_vu> breeze simplified is quite small and looks fine ;)
23:43 <wrtlprnft> i think i tried that once and didn't like it for some reason
23:43 <deja_vu> hehe
23:45 <wrtlprnft> ah right, the text in the tabs touches the favicon, and I don't like the monocolored background and the scrollbars
23:46 <wrtlprnft> and i'd need to modify it to get rid of those #$%§ß useless close buttons
23:46 <deja_vu> o.O
23:46 <deja_vu> mine doesn't show close buttons
23:46 <wrtlprnft> there's a setting in the preferences
23:46 <deja_vu> yea

23:48 <deja_vu> hm...
23:48 <deja_vu> what's it called?
23:48 <wrtlprnft> something with classic in it

» Layout is loosely based on an old design by Durf.

» Various other icon selections include icons from Crystal, crystalsvg, oxygen, and breeze icon themes.
» Other icons: fontawesome

is a site that has tools, maps, and other various items. It orignally only existed as a server control panel, but I slowly began adding stuff such as a homepage and tools.

This is an LLM-free zone. In general, I am unwilling to use (fight with) any form of "GenAI" to write code for me. So, for the forseeable future, everything on this site will continue to be written by a very silly goose (wait that's me honk honk) with some parts written by other humans as well (silly hu-mon) rather than any plausible-series-of-words token-eating machine. Even my libraries are out of date, and suddenly that's a good thing!
(Although the style has changed several times and content has been added and changed, the base of this site has barely been updated since 2015. But it Ain't Broke!)
This site is also occasionally tested with older browsers, but compatibility is not guarenteed. Although, if you have an old obscure browser and something isn't working that previously did, I guess you can tell me (nelg) about it...
