00:00 <Lucifer_arma> it's a bootstrapping issue, means I can start buying the batteries and use my existing charger
00:00 <luke-jr_> i see
00:00 <luke-jr_> my Rayovac charges in 15 min
00:00 <Lucifer_arma> and then later, when I'm ready, I can buy the energizer charger, and then I'll have two chargers for my batteries
00:00 <luke-jr_> it's really more like 30-45 min tho
00:00 <Lucifer_arma> I don't know that mine does, but I'm not terribly worried about it
00:00 <luke-jr_> cuz they're too hot to handle for quite some time later
00:01 <Lucifer_arma> what's important is that I know what batteries it takes, whether they're energizers or not
00:01 <luke-jr_> unless I throw them in the freezer, anyhow
00:01 <Lucifer_arma> you know, I'm doing something really dumb, I think
00:01 <luke-jr_> ?
00:02 <luke-jr_> the 15-minute chargers need a fan, pretty sure
00:02 <Lucifer_arma> I could just hook up my printer to the new computer and use it there instead of trying to get it to work on the server
00:02 <luke-jr_> heh
00:02 <luke-jr_> KDE makes printing easy
00:02 <Lucifer_arma> this one requires installing extra drivers, conveniently provided by the manufacturer
00:03 <Lucifer_arma> I need to get some test prints of my templates so I can see if they're scaled right :/
00:03 <luke-jr_> print to PDF?
00:03 <Lucifer_arma> from inkscape?
00:03 <Lucifer_arma> I'm open to suggestions
00:03 <luke-jr_> shrug
00:03 <luke-jr_> IIRC, you can still call kprinter from GTK
00:04 <luke-jr_> could always just change your resolution too
00:05 <Lucifer_arma> haha, it'll save as pdf

00:05 <Lucifer_arma> well, I need a physical copy at some point
00:05 <Lucifer_arma> I want to make a cardboard cutout for each piece so I can see how they stand next to each other
00:06 <luke-jr_> so avoid printers that suck :)
00:06 <Lucifer_arma> maybe ultimately try taking some measurements to compute center of mass, but I'm probably not going to
00:06 <Lucifer_arma> I'll just figure out some way to lower center of mass
00:06 <Lucifer_arma> my printer doesn't suck, gentoo sucks
00:06 <Lucifer_arma> never had any problems gettin this printer to work in mandriva and kubuntu, but gentoo is a pain
00:06 <luke-jr_> or maybe you just don't know how to use it
00:07 <luke-jr_> do you have USE='gimp-print ppds' etc?
00:08 <Lucifer_arma> beats me
00:09 <Lucifer_arma> doesn't matter anyway, I'm tearing down the server this summer sometime and rebuilding it with ubuntu
00:09 <Lucifer_arma> laptop too, but it'll be kubuntu, of course
00:09 <Lucifer_arma> tired of having different distributions, right now I've got 3 different distributions running! What a pain
00:09 <Lucifer_arma> get it down to just one that works and stick with that, I think

00:19 <Lucifer_arma> haha, got the server to print
00:19 <Lucifer_arma> had to reboot it for some reason to get it to see the printer, though

01:46 <mkzelda> is there a way I can make armagetron avoid my http_proxy variable?
01:47 <mkzelda> i figured out that is what is causing it to fail downloading maps
01:47 <mkzelda> but i need it set for other things
01:47 <luke-jr_> unset http_proxy
01:47 <mkzelda> but i need it set for other things
01:47 <luke-jr_> so don't unset it for those other things
01:48 <mkzelda> man it was so much nicer when you were pretending to /ignore more
01:48 <mkzelda> *me
01:50 <luke-jr_> per-application env vars is not a job for each apP!
01:50 <mkzelda> i dont recall saying it was
01:50 <mkzelda> tho often times, programs contain options

02:10 <Lucifer_arma> ok, building qcad :/
02:10 <Lucifer_arma> er, maybe not
02:32 <luke-jr_> mkzelda: programs contain options specific to them; global options are handler higher up
02:38 <mkzelda> thats funny cause i have tons of programs that let me specify my proxy address
02:39 <mkzelda> i was only asking if aa had the option

08:16 <Lucifer_arma> wow, a drive-by
08:17 <mkzelda> how am i supposed to know what the weather is w/o armabot?
08:17 <GodTodd> window?
08:18 <Lucifer_arma> haha
08:18 <Lucifer_arma> there's also a neato firefox plugin
08:18 <GodTodd> what's your zip?
08:18 <Lucifer_arma> for example, it's now cloudy and 70F, tonight it'll be 67, and tomorrow it'll be 85
08:18 <mkzelda> its always slowed firefox to a grinding halt on any machine ive tried it
08:18 <mkzelda> 27545
08:18 <Lucifer_arma> there's also weather.com
08:19 <Lucifer_arma> and for inaccurate bullshit, you can try accuweather.com
08:19 <mkzelda> yea... but then the joke isnt as funny
08:19 <GodTodd> <ToddBot> GodTodd: The current temperature in Hedingham, Raleigh, North Carolina is 63.9°F (2:20 AM EDT on May 29, 2007). Conditions: Clear. Humidity: 81%. Dew Point: 57.2°F. Pressure: 30.21 in 1022.9 hPa (Steady).
08:19 <GodTodd> :)
08:19 <Lucifer_arma> well, when you submit it to bash.org, make sure not to include anything under my "haha" line
08:19 <Lucifer_arma> why don't you just tell toddbot to join?
08:20 <GodTodd> cuz it offends luke-jr_'s sensibilities i guess
08:20 <GodTodd> heh
08:20 <Lucifer_arma> just rename him so durka doesn't know he's a bot
08:20 <mkzelda> whoa your bot says its hedingham
08:20 <mkzelda> altho misspelled, its the first time i recognized the name
08:20 <GodTodd> heh
08:20 <mkzelda> armabot says all kinds of crazy stuff, NE raleigh, winchester, lizard lick
08:21 <Lucifer_arma> odd, they both use weather.com
08:21 <mkzelda> heddingham is like 2 miles from here
08:21 <GodTodd> lizard lick...now how do you get a name like that?
08:21 <GodTodd> nvm...don't wanna know
08:21 <GodTodd> heh
08:21 <mkzelda> i dont know... ive never seen a lizard lick around here
08:21 <mkzelda> or winchester
08:21 <mkzelda> and i know the area well
08:21 <mkzelda> and its not NE raleigh either
08:21 <GodTodd> i'm not far from Gunbarrel City :)
08:21 <GodTodd> an hour or so
08:22 <Lucifer_arma> I finally got the templates to print actual size :)
08:22 <Lucifer_arma> now I need some packing tape
08:23 <Lucifer_arma> or some other transparent, thick tape
08:23 <GodTodd> to stiffen them?
08:23 <Lucifer_arma> to attach the pages and to stiffen the edges
08:23 <GodTodd> ahhh
08:23 <Lucifer_arma> takes 15 pages to print the king, I expect the others to be similar because of their shapes
08:24 <Lucifer_arma> but I figure I'll tape the edges on both the front and the back, then have the kids cut along the line
08:24 <Lucifer_arma> that should give a good, stiff edge for a pen or marker or something
08:24 <Lucifer_arma> I don't know how I'll do it for the cardboard, maybe just pick a pen that slides easily along the cardboard
08:25 <Lucifer_arma> I explained the plan to the kids today, though, and they're excited, but confused
08:25 <Lucifer_arma> they don't understand why we're going to make 1 cardboard prototype for each piece, which is 6 prototypes, and then make 32 pieces
08:25 <GodTodd> heh...i can't invite my bot :P
08:25 <Lucifer_arma> #join #armagetron
08:26 <GodTodd> then i have to go upstairs :/
08:26 <GodTodd> heh
08:26 <Lucifer_arma> ?
08:26 <GodTodd> it's running on the server upstairs
08:26 <Lucifer_arma> you can't just go into the channel, identify yourself with him, then say that?
08:26 <GodTodd> dunno
08:27 <Lucifer_arma> you can, as long as it knows you're the admin
08:28 <GodTodd> hmmm identifying isn't working :/
08:28 <Lucifer_arma> not working for me either, and he's not msging me back
08:28 <Lucifer_arma> maybe he's not identified with nickserv?
08:29 <GodTodd> yeah...that's it :/
08:29 <GodTodd> how do i register him?
08:30 <mkzelda> u /msg nickserv help... but its /msg nickserv register i believe
08:30 <GodTodd> to do my own nick...yeah
08:31 <Lucifer_arma> tell him to change his name to somethin else, then change your name to ToddBot and register with nickserv
08:31 <Lucifer_arma> then set the appropriate supybot config items, change your name back, then change his name back
08:32 <Lucifer_arma> you might have to shut him down to set those config items sincce you can't identify to him right now
08:32 <Lucifer_arma> you might have to shut him down to do it all, apparently
08:33 <Lucifer_arma> ok, the chess pieces are updated to 0.7mm line width, which is what drafters use
08:33 <Lucifer_arma> easier to cut consistently
08:34 <Lucifer_arma> I don't know what possessed me to do 1/5 inch line width, that's just unbelievably large when you intend to cut precisely
08:37 <Lucifer_arma> so, can I just paint something with acrylic finish and have it be weather-proof?
08:38 <mkzelda> not with the hurricane season we're supposed to see this year
08:39 <mkzelda> its sad when ppl here are welcoming a hurricane as its our only means to get some rain

09:07 <Lucifer_arma> but if I'm going to do paper mache, I should make a half-scale set first and learn how to do it

• Design:
» Layout is loosely based on an old design by Durf.

» Other icons: fontawesome

is a site that has tools, maps, and other various items. It orignally only existed as a server control panel, but I slowly began adding stuff such as a homepage and tools.
----
This is an LLM-free zone. In general, I am unwilling to use (fight with) any form of "GenAI" to write code for me. So, for the forseeable future, everything on this site will continue to be written by a very silly goose (wait that's me honk honk) with some parts written by other humans as well (silly hu-mon) rather than any plausible-series-of-words token-eating machine. Even my libraries are out of date, and suddenly that's a good thing!
(Although the style has changed several times and content has been added and changed, the base of this site has barely been updated since 2015. But it Ain't Broke!)
This site is also occasionally tested with older browsers, but compatibility is not guarenteed. Although, if you have an old obscure browser and something isn't working that previously did, I guess you can tell me (nelg) about it...
