06:09 <hoax> that's because trucks are shit Lucifer
06:15 <luke-jr> just like him
06:17 <Pathetique> o.o
06:22 <Pathetique> Holy shit there's a lot of lines in ePlayer.cpp
06:39 <Pathetique> luke-jr: how important is "config_common.h"?
06:43 <luke-jr> never heard of it
06:43 <Pathetique> Its related to the particle system...
06:44 <Pathetique> It doesn't exist in the source.
06:44 <Pathetique> lol
06:45 <Pathetique> Hmmm...xcode is having trouble with anything that calls on tLocale.h
06:45 <Pathetique> woohooo
06:45 <Pathetique> 10000 errors and counting on this compile run
06:46 <Pathetique> it sez
06:46 <Pathetique> error: variable 'std::istringstream stream' has initializer but incomplete type

08:16 <Pathetique> Hello joda :)
08:22 <Pathetique> wtf
08:22 <Pathetique> in my copy of the source
08:22 <Pathetique> it calls for an nAuthentication.cpp and .h, as well as a nAuthentification.cpp and .h
08:24 <luke-jr> Pathetique: so fix your copy
08:27 <Pathetique> ¬.¬
08:39 <Pathetique> If you don't have anything constructive to say (anything that resembles or could be taken as "Pathetique: read the fucking manual"), then please don't respond.
08:49 <joda_bot> Pathetique: which version are you trying to compile ?
08:49 <joda_bot> where did you get the data from, and which OS / compiler do you use ?
08:49 <Pathetique> 0.2.8-auth, Mac OS X 10.5, Xcode.
08:50 <joda_bot> ah, ok I guess nemosultae is the person to ask about Xcode / Mac OS X
08:50 <joda_bot> haven't looked at those Mac OS in ages
08:50 <Pathetique> Perhaps you might recognize the error I'm getting? :S
08:51 <joda_bot> Yeah, I think you can just remove the nAuthentification files from the project
08:51 <joda_bot> as they are no longer required as far as I can recall
08:51 <joda_bot> atleast that is worth a try
08:51 <Pathetique> Indeed, I did. And then fixed the rest of it.
08:51 <joda_bot> but ?
08:51 <Pathetique> By removing all references/#includes
08:52 <Pathetique> but
08:52 <Pathetique> I keep getting build errors
08:52 <joda_bot> ok which ones ?
08:52 <joda_bot> are nAuthentification cpp and h empty ?
08:52 <Pathetique> Linking issues..."eVoter::HandleChat(ePlayerNetID*, std::basic_istream<char, std::char_traits<char> >&)", referenced from:
08:52 <Pathetique> handle_chat(nMessage&) in ePlayer.o
08:53 <Pathetique> symbol(s) not found
08:53 <Pathetique> collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
08:54 <joda_bot> try cleaning the project
08:54 <joda_bot> if you get linking errors
08:54 <joda_bot> or recompile everything :-)
08:54 <Pathetique> I get warnings when I clean...Warning: The Copy Bundle Resources build phase contains this target's Info.plist file '../src/macosx/Info.plist'.
08:55 <joda_bot> no idea about that ... does it ask you if you want to continue ?
08:55 <joda_bot> otherwise I'd ignore it
08:55 <Pathetique> It says Clean Succeeded.
08:57 <Pathetique> It starts compiling everything just fine until it has to link...I don't quite understand what that involves, but I know it gets an error in reference to eVoter
08:58 <joda_bot> the earlier error, is the best thing to look at
08:58 <joda_bot> the XCode files might fail to compile eVoter.cpp / eVoter.h
08:58 <joda_bot> if one of the mentioned files is not in the project, then add it to make XCode compile that file
08:58 <Pathetique> It seems to only be a ppc build issue...lol
08:58 <joda_bot> but I'm not sure how the build process is structured
08:59 <joda_bot> aha, how so ?
08:59 <Pathetique> I dunnnno
08:59 <Pathetique> But it has--nvm
09:01 <Pathetique> found the line that causes the problem...I made a slight modification to ePlayer.cpp
09:01 <Pathetique> I defined a new chat command
09:01 <Pathetique> /mod
09:01 <Pathetique> I thought that mods using /admin to do their mod stuff was sloppy or something
09:02 <Pathetique> But uhm, perhaps that caused the issue? Either way, I commented out the /vote and /callvote commands
09:06 -!- G5 [n=G5@p57962FDE.dip.t-dialin.net] has joined #Armagetron
09:06 <joda_bot> and it does work now ?
09:07 <Pathetique> holy crap
09:07 <Pathetique> Great Success.
09:07 <Pathetique> Only warnings are about s_topSourceDir being defined in tDirectories.cpp but not being used
09:07 <Pathetique> lol
09:08 <joda_bot> but if you want to make new "admin" commands talk to epsy and/or wrtlprnft, because as far as I know there is already a way to define moderator access permission
09:08 <Pathetique> oh yes
09:08 <Pathetique> ACCESS_LEVEL
09:09 <Pathetique> Lets see if this works first, though. lol
09:09 <joda_bot> ok, good luck
09:09 <joda_bot> :-)
09:09 <Pathetique> ty
09:10 <joda_bot> I'm out now :-)
09:10 <Pathetique> Thanks for the help. :)
09:10 <joda_bot> ah if you don't know about that site, it might help you
09:10 <joda_bot> https://code.launchpad.net/armagetronad
09:11 <joda_bot> because that is where the latest developments are put, some of those branches are not on sourceforge, but the main parts are in sync with sourceforge
09:11 <Pathetique> Indeed. :)
09:11 <joda_bot> ok

18:48 <ivantis> hello z-man
18:50 <z-man> that code of yours should be something along the lines of "if (!target->Vulnerable()) ..."
18:50 <ivantis> oh
18:50 <Pathetique> :o
18:50 <ivantis> ill check it
18:50 <Pathetique> I got a quick question...
18:53 <Pathetique> I compiled a copy of the dedicated server with a minor modification just for my learning purposes.
18:53 <Pathetique> I added a /mod command for moderators to use on the server, mainly because I thought moderators using /admin is kind of sloppy.
18:53 <ivantis> what file?
18:53 <Pathetique> So when I run said dedicated server, I get the following error: Internal Error: Internal error in static tLanguage* tLanguage::FindStrict(const tString&) in /Users/evannelson/armagetronad-svn-branches/0.2.8-auth/armagetronad/MacOS/../src/tools/tLocale.cpp:150 :

18:53 <Pathetique> Please send a Bug report!
18:54 <ivantis> oh
18:54 <ivantis> when you ran the server, you werent in the right directory
18:54 <Pathetique> o.o
18:55 <ivantis> cd into the directory that language and config and all is in, and run the server from there
18:55 <Pathetique> I ran it both from Terminal and from Xcode
18:55 <Pathetique> oic
18:55 <ivantis> in the terminal
18:55 <ivantis> i used to have that problem with os x too

18:57 <Pathetique> hmmm
18:57 <Pathetique> I see what you mean, ivantis.
18:57 <ivantis> did it work?
18:57 <Pathetique> Perhaps making a dedicated release would solve this without me having to copy and paste all over.
18:57 <Pathetique> lol
18:59 <Pathetique> z-man: did you see the final posts on the iPhone 3G thread?
19:01 <z-man> Probably, let me check. What about it?
19:01 <Pathetique> I can summarize what I posted, if you like.
19:02 <z-man> The last one was the 3/4th of a circle drawing.
19:02 <Pathetique> oh yeah, lol
19:02 <Pathetique> ok, well, I think it was voodoo who said he was compiling it for use with the OpenGL ES?
19:04 <z-man> Maybe. OpenGL ES is complicated and will be a hell to port to, probably.
19:04 <z-man> We're using immediate mode almost exclusively.
19:05 <Pathetique> Indeed. As soon as I realized how much needed to be ported, I thought, "Oh fuck, I have a lot to learn..." but hopefully someone with more experience could do it, which is why I was happy to see that someone else took up the idea and was working on it.
19:09 <ivantis> i
19:09 <ivantis> io
19:09 <ivantis> well, the invulnerable thing doesnt work
19:10 <ivantis> it works if SHOT_KILL_SELF is on so you cant shoot yourself when invulnerable
19:10 <ivantis> but not for other players
19:10 <z-man> Then you put the condition into the wrong place :)
19:10 <ivantis> probably, thats what i was thinking
19:12 <z-man> Why a special channel?
19:12 <ivantis> idk
19:12 <ivantis> luke-jr started it
19:14 <Pathetique> z-man: if I create a new chat command in ePlayer.cpp, do I have to do something for it in tLocale.cpp--wait, I have to add the entry for each new message in the language files.
19:14 <Pathetique> <--- lolnoob
19:15 <ivantis> all right! it works, thanks z-man
19:16 <z-man> Np, I didn't do a thing :)
19:16 <Pathetique> lol
19:16 <ivantis> well, you helped me with the object
19:16 <ivantis> im not good at referals like that

19:17 <Pathetique> Don't be too hard on yourself.
19:17 <Pathetique> :P
19:18 <Pathetique> z-man: another random question. If I change the version ID requirements for a command such as CYCLE_WIDTH from 14 to 13, would that cause lag/bugginess on the client end of things if I had CYCLE_WIDTH enabled?
19:18 <ivantis> what?
19:19 <ivantis> oh
19:19 <ivantis> it wouldnt be so good with client prediction
19:19 <ivantis> i think
19:21 <Pathetique> ummm
19:21 <Pathetique> lol
19:22 <ivantis> armagetron is great

19:25 <ivantis> but you registered it
19:26 <ivantis> what does cycle_width do anyway?
19:26 <ivantis> pathetique
19:27 <Pathetique> Basically, if you try to go between two walls that are close, it checks to see if the distance between the walls is bigger than the value specified for CYCLE_WIDTH.
19:27 <ivantis> oh yeah
19:27 <Pathetique> If it isn't, then as you pass through it, you burn rubber.
19:27 <ivantis> now i remember
19:27 <ivantis> as well as how close you are to other walls than your own
19:28 <Pathetique> indeed.
19:28 <ivantis> your cycle will tilt
19:28 <ivantis> sometiems
19:28 <Pathetique> wut?
19:28 <Pathetique> I think that is just something that is programmed into the game...I didn't know it was able to change...
19:28 <ivantis> come to nanos playground, you can see it there

19:40 <ivantis> hey
19:40 <ivantis> ppl
19:40 <ivantis> i had a good
19:40 <ivantis> idea
19:40 <ivantis> pathetique
19:41 <Pathetique> (try and use complete sentences in single messages lol)
19:41 <ivantis> o
19:41 <ivantis> k
19:41 <ivantis> lo
19:41 <ivantis> l
19:41 <ivantis> now, my idea, CYCLE_BRAKE_WALL_SHRINK
19:41 <ivantis> just like CYCLE_RUBBER_WALL_SHRINK, but when you press brake
19:42 <Pathetique> It would have to be available both server-side and client-side.
19:42 <ivantis> nonsense
19:42 <ivantis> the server bosses the client enough to make it work
19:43 <Pathetique> Otherwise, like my idea with the cycle_booster thing being a chat command like /boost would create lag.
19:43 <ivantis> only brain lag
19:43 <Pathetique> no, it would cause sync issues.
19:43 <ivantis> i dont think so
19:43 <Pathetique> Because the client would sync with the server
19:43 <ivantis> only on prediction
19:44 <Pathetique> and the server would say, your wall is this long, but the client would say, no, its this long, and yes, ultimately the server wins, but it would cause a fair number of bugs...
19:44 <Pathetique> Not to mention not the most pleasant instantaneous wall length changes depending on whether someone is braking or not
19:45 <ivantis> but you could turn it off
19:45 <Pathetique> Turn what off? The brake wall shrink?
19:45 <ivantis> anyway, CYCLE_RUBBER_WALL_SHRINK is in group bumpy
19:45 <Pathetique> Or prediction?
19:45 <ivantis> turn the brake wall shrink off
19:45 <ivantis> its in group bumpy because it gets a little bit bumpy
19:46 <ivantis> i think
19:47 <Pathetique> oic
19:47 <ivantis> and CYCLE_WALLS_LENGTH can be sent to the client any time and it changes intantly
19:47 <Pathetique> but that doesn't change dependent on someone brakign
19:47 <ivantis> i know
19:48 <Pathetique> I mean, yeah its doable.
19:48 <Pathetique> Take the flag that is triggered whenever you brake...and have a conditional statement that shrinks the wall if "CYCLE_BRAKE_WALL_SHRINK" has a value other than 0.
19:49 <ivantis> luke-jr: i played at your MCP attack server a couple times, on team red, for going through walls, do you use something like invulnerability so it sets if the cycle is on team red?
19:52 <ivantis> Pathetique: yes, i quote from gCycle.cpp for CYCLE_RUBBER_WALL_SHRINK: "if ( sg_cycleRubberWallShrink >= 0 || sg_rubberCycle < 0 )"
19:56 <ivantis> bah, this looks to complicated
19:57 <Pathetique> lol

20:04 <maks_> hello
20:04 <ivantis> is there a simple way (specifically in the file engine/ePlayer.cpp) to check if a player exists and return the full name? i cant figure it out from the /msg
20:04 <maks_> why speak
20:04 <maks_> russian ?
20:05 <z-man> player->GetName() ?
20:05 <ivantis> ok, ill try that
20:05 <maks_> ej
20:05 <ivantis> like player->GetName( "<part of the name>" )?
20:06 <z-man> Err, no.
20:06 <z-man> Do you want the name of a player or the player with a specific name?
20:06 <Pathetique> Здравствулте! maks. Добро пожаловать к каналу irc Armagetron предварительному.
20:07 <ivantis> i want it to return a players full name with a part of a name search
20:07 <ivantis> like in /msg <part of a name>
20:07 <ivantis> it returns the full name somehow
20:07 <z-man> Find the player with ePlayerNetID::FindPlayerByName()
20:07 <z-man> then, if the return value is not NULL, use ->GetName() on it.
20:08 <ivantis> how does it take input?
20:08 <Pathetique> Maks?
20:09 <z-man> Umm, Find...() takes the substring you're looking for, plus the player requesting the information (the one issuing the chat command, presumably)
20:09 <z-man> and GetName() takes no further input.
20:10 <ivantis> so in ePlayer.cpp, in a chat command, add ePlayerNetID::FindPlayerByName()?
20:10 <ivantis> and then an if to see if it is NULL,
20:11 <Pathetique> Я огорченн если я обидел вас, то, maks. Я использую переводчика.
20:11 <ivantis> i see after the comment check for player...
20:11 <Pathetique> lololol
20:12 <ivantis> ePlayerNetID * receiver = se_FindPlayerInChatCommand( p, "/msg", s );
20:12 <z-man> You can use that, too. That also handles the extraction of the player name from the chat string.
20:14 <ivantis> so what is the variable that is the full players name now?
20:14 <ivantis> s?

This is an LLM-free zone. In general, I am unwilling to use (fight with) any form of "GenAI" to write code for me. So, for the forseeable future, everything on this site will continue to be written by a very silly goose (wait that's me honk honk) with some parts written by other humans as well (silly hu-mon) rather than any plausible-series-of-words token-eating machine. Even my libraries are out of date, and suddenly that's a good thing!
(Although the style has changed several times and content has been added and changed, the base of this site has barely been updated since 2015. But it Ain't Broke!)
This site is also occasionally tested with older browsers, but compatibility is not guarenteed. Although, if you have an old obscure browser and something isn't working that previously did, I guess you can tell me (nelg) about it...
