00:00 <Lucifer_arma> more specifically, he wants to be able to render what the hud map shows in any arbitrary fashion :)
00:00 <philippeqc> wrt: you wont get that code to connect to an old fashion zoned server anytime soon.
00:01 <wrtlprnft> then it's better not to merge, IMHO
00:01 <Lucifer_arma> anyway, we don't have any of the infrastructure in place to really unbuckle the game objects from their renderer, but it would be nice if the zones could at least be partially separated---while you're there, if it's not a problem, that's all
00:02 <philippeqc> wrtlprnft: grrrr. I wanted so much to close that branch!
00:02 <Lucifer_arma> oh no, the rVisual discussion never got wikified

00:02 * Lucifer_arma puts that on his todo list
00:03 <wrtlprnft> philippeqc: sorry :(
00:03 <philippeqc> wrtlprnft: its not your fault
00:03 <wrtlprnft> well, i'm refusing to commit it :)
00:03 <philippeqc> darn! and now the team assignment worked!
00:04 <philippeqc> it meant people where able to make totally new maps with the new zones, and to use the "only owner can use" and other such new rules
00:05 <wrtlprnft> yeah, but there needs to be some backwards compatibility
00:05 <philippeqc> wrtlprnft: thanks for the effort. I think I'll go crash. Been coding since 7am.
00:05 <philippeqc> backward compatibility is for wimps. Are you a wimp?
00:06 <wrtlprnft> noone would play with a version of arma that can't connect to fortress/sumo/ctf/styball servers and will crash if there's a winzone
00:06 <wrtlprnft> cya :)
00:06 <philippeqc> cya

00:22 <Lucifer_arma> It's the eye of the tiger, it's the thrill of the fight, rising up to the challenge of our rivals
00:22 <ghableska_> o_O
00:22 * Lucifer_arma thinks that song's stuck in his head because he's been training fencing all day, expecting more tournament stuff next week
00:22 <Lucifer_arma> see, ghableska, it's like this. When I showed up to class last night, they said "We're going to have a little tournament"
00:23 <Lucifer_arma> I had thought we weren't startin the tournament until may, but they wanted to do some sort of competitive fencing
00:23 <Lucifer_arma> I came in second, but I think with some training I could have come in first.
00:23 <Lucifer_arma> That was also only in half the two classes, we combined classes, then split down the middle to make two groups
00:24 <Lucifer_arma> that was second of six, with #1, #3, and #4 taken by people who were in their second or third semester of fencing
00:24 <Lucifer_arma> so I guess I didn't do too badly, since it's my first semester (and the 5 and 6 slots were first semester kids in my class)
00:25 <Lucifer_arma> but dammit, I want to win! Not come in second!
00:26 <Lucifer_arma> so anyway, if what we just did was a seed round, then when the knockout part starts, I'm either going against #2 from the other side, or #5. If it's #2, I'm going to need some more work!

07:03 <MrBougo> hello
07:09 <Lucifer_arma> anybody know anything about plumbing?
07:10 <GodTodd> depends on what you need to know
07:11 <Lucifer_arma> the likelihood that a clog, let's say 6-8 feet down from the master toilet can be shared with a toilet on the other side of the house
07:11 <Lucifer_arma> here's the facts:
07:11 <Lucifer_arma> a few weeks ago, my youngest stuck a bunch of paper towels in the toilet. Half asleep as I was, I didn't see that they were, in fact, paper towels, and flushed
07:11 <Lucifer_arma> and flushed
07:11 <Lucifer_arma> and plunged to get the fuckers to go down
07:12 <Lucifer_arma> shortly after that, both toilets clog up. The front one always had problems and has to be plunged every other time someone dumps in it anyway
07:12 <Lucifer_arma> so I go back and forth getting one to drain and the other, and I finally got the front one to flush very nicely while the back one was clogged
07:12 <Lucifer_arma> I took an auger to the back one and got it to drain faster, but suddenly the front one stopped flushing
07:13 <GodTodd> how far apart are the two bathrooms?
07:13 <Lucifer_arma> so, earlier today, I learned what a three year old means by "I peed, then the bathroom peed", and had to a) stop the toilet from running because it was overflowing, and b) throw another goddamn layer of towels and dark sheets on the floor (no white sheets used here)
07:13 <Lucifer_arma> quite a bit, they're at opposite sides of the house
07:13 <Lucifer_arma> 30-40 feet
07:13 <GodTodd> hmmm
07:14 <Lucifer_arma> so I went into the master bath a few minutes ago with the auger hoping to get it to drain quickly enough so I could safely take a dump, and lo and behold, I fished out the paper towels
07:14 <Lucifer_arma> now it flushed like there's no tomorrow (it always has before!), and suddenly the front toilet flushes again
07:15 <Lucifer_arma> I *knew* beyond all shadow of doubt that the front toilet was clogged when I went into the master bath, and I didn't touch it a bit afterwards, except for some minor augering that didn't touch anything
07:15 <GodTodd> sounds like the paper towels were definitely in the crosspoint where the drainage pipes meet up before they merrily head to the sewer
07:15 <Lucifer_arma> (You can feel the auger touching things :) )
07:15 <Lucifer_arma> it really sounds like that, doesn't it?
07:15 <GodTodd> yep
07:15 <Lucifer_arma> hopefully I put it objectively enough not to color it with my own hopeful bias :)
07:15 <GodTodd> probably got there because of the plunging
07:15 <Lucifer_arma> and probably shifting back and forth, hence one toilet would drain while the other one wouldn't
07:15 <GodTodd> heh...i, unfortunately, have much experience with clogged toilets
07:16 <GodTodd> right
07:16 <Lucifer_arma> on one hand, it's kind of a shame if I've fied it now, because the augering was building up my parry muscles ;)
07:16 <GodTodd> luckily for us, one bathroom is upstairs and one is down which means they pretty much are separate piping until under the front yard somewhere
07:17 <Lucifer_arma> if that was indeed the case this time, then I would kill for some sort of redundant piping
07:17 <MrBougo> crazy story, luci
07:17 <MrBougo> i have only one toilet
07:17 <MrBougo> can't help
07:17 <Lucifer_arma> I've probably put around 30 hours int he last two weeks trying to keep my toilets flushing
07:17 <GodTodd> it certainly sounds like that was the case
07:18 * GodTodd is still laughing...."i peed then the bathroom peed"
07:18 <GodTodd> kids rule :)
07:18 <Lucifer_arma> man, I just knew what he meant, and kept telling him "go tell mommy", but he insisted
07:18 <Lucifer_arma> so I finally went in there and saw it overflowing, and he said "see daddy, the bathroom peed"
07:18 <GodTodd> haha
07:19 <Lucifer_arma> damn kid, knew all she was going to do was freak out.... ;?
07:19 <GodTodd> no house should ever be without a good auger
07:20 <GodTodd> especially with a family with bowels from hell like mine :/
07:20 <Lucifer_arma> something else had happened with him, the chain on that little rubber thing (pardon me for not knowing technical names of toilet parts) had caught, so it wouldn't stop draining the water chest
07:20 <GodTodd> the chain attached to the flapper :P
07:20 <Lucifer_arma> yeah, I put $50 we don't have into a really nice auger last week
07:21 <GodTodd> i just have one of those cheap 20$ jobbies
07:21 <Lucifer_arma> I was so certain the clog was farther downpipe that it was affecting both toilets that I was ready to get a longer auger, this one's not terribly long
07:21 <GodTodd> and i have a 14 month old that is beginning to discover that you can put things in the toilet....fun times coming up
07:21 <GodTodd> heh
07:21 <Lucifer_arma> what it is is heavy duty, so any clog within the length of this thing should be history, with enough work
07:22 <Lucifer_arma> ah yeah, yeah
07:22 <Lucifer_arma> this all started with my three year old and me, so it kinda makes sense in a shakespearean sort of way that it ends with me and him
07:22 <GodTodd> tho i'll never forget when my oldest was so proud after flushing a live fish
07:22 <Lucifer_arma> haha
07:22 <Lucifer_arma> did he set it free?
07:22 <Lucifer_arma> had he just watched finding nemo?
07:23 <GodTodd> nah...long before that movie
07:23 <GodTodd> back in 99 or 2000
07:23 <GodTodd> he had evidently seen when i had stealthily flushed the goldfish that had died
07:24 <Lucifer_arma> ooooo
07:24 <GodTodd> so, he ended up catching the survivor
07:24 <Lucifer_arma> that kinda sucks
07:24 <Lucifer_arma> when my daughter's first fish died, we buried it in the backyard. :)
07:24 <GodTodd> all i see is him running through the house screaming "i got da foosh! i got da foosh!"
07:24 <Lucifer_arma> same with the second....
07:24 <GodTodd> then i hear the flush
07:24 <GodTodd> he comes out grinning from ear to ear
07:24 <GodTodd> and all i can do is laugh
07:24 <Lucifer_arma> haha
07:25 <GodTodd> he told me he was letting the fish swim in the toilet
07:26 <Lucifer_arma> hopefully there were no logs in it at the time... (not that it matters for when the fish first hits the sewer, then the treatment plant)
07:26 <GodTodd> that's one of those events that sticks in a parent's mind, i'll tell you ;)
07:26 <GodTodd> yeah...i'm sure the fish didn't survive too long
07:27 <Lucifer_arma> tap water would've killed it anyway, assuming no cleaners in the water chest
07:27 <Lucifer_arma> my wife killed both of my kids' fishes at the same time. They were bettas, and she changed the water
07:27 <Lucifer_arma> but she didn't do two very important things
07:27 <GodTodd> ooooh
07:27 <Lucifer_arma> 1. She didn't warm up the water to 80 degrees
07:27 <GodTodd> bettas are rough if you don't do them right
07:27 <Lucifer_arma> 2. She didn't add the treatment to the water
07:27 <Lucifer_arma> oh man, and she did it after I had nursed one of them back to health
07:27 <Lucifer_arma> I was so mad
07:28 <GodTodd> we generally just had goldfish with a pleco for cleaning
07:28 <Lucifer_arma> well, we're interested in getting more fish and having a nice little community aquarium, but we're both a little too broke, and a little too gunshy
07:28 -!- Bougo [n=MrBougo@55.29-241-81.adsl-dyn.isp.belgacom.be] has joined #armagetron
07:28 <GodTodd> i don't have the patience for tropicals
07:29 <Lucifer_arma> except I think I could handle it, I just dont' have any control over whatever wild hair goes up somebody else's ass and they decide to clean shit without having the foggiest idea what they're doing
07:29 <GodTodd> haha
07:29 <GodTodd> i know that feeling
07:29 <Lucifer_arma> I'll admit, first time I cleaned the beta tanks I was scared, because the kids loved the fish and I didn't want to kill them
07:30 <Lucifer_arma> I spent 6 hours googling, read my kid's beta manual, etc. I did my research, man. (admittedly some of that time was spent qualifying stuff I read)
07:30 <GodTodd> it's the "no one helps until it is really really inconvenient for me, then they do it wrong" syndrome
07:30 <Lucifer_arma> found that the fish had so far survived by pure chance
07:30 <GodTodd> you had them separated, right?
07:30 <Lucifer_arma> well, the thing is, she was trying to help. :)
07:30 <Lucifer_arma> yeah, they were separated
07:30 <GodTodd> that's the main thing people do wrong when they first get bettas
07:31 <GodTodd> those fuckers hate each other
07:31 <Lucifer_arma> that was the only thing we actually knew :)
07:31 <Lucifer_arma> well, turns out it's just the males, I think, but females are supposed to be fine
07:31 <Lucifer_arma> one of the two
07:31 <Lucifer_arma> but the general rule is to still kee them separated
07:31 <GodTodd> yeah...but you gonna look for the dick?
07:31 <GodTodd> :P
07:31 <Lucifer_arma> but you can put otehr fish with them
07:31 <GodTodd> yep
07:31 <Lucifer_arma> we just had little itty bitty tanks, so there wasn't room for other fish with them
07:32 <GodTodd> i read a whole thing once on breeding bettas...it's a pain in the ass really
07:32 <Lucifer_arma> for the first, with my son's outliing both of my daughter's fish, my daughter refused to turn her light off, right?
07:32 <Lucifer_arma> you know, when she went to bed
07:32 <Lucifer_arma> so teh tank filled up with algae, and I thought the poor thing was going to die
07:32 <GodTodd> heh
07:33 <GodTodd> put a pleco in there :)
07:33 <Lucifer_arma> so I cleaned the tank and put it next to my son's tank in his bedroom, where it got a good regular day/night cycle
07:33 <Lucifer_arma> and the fish rallied! he came back, was swimming around and stuff
07:33 <Lucifer_arma> wait, that's not right
07:33 <Lucifer_arma> no, that fish died, that's what happened
07:33 <GodTodd> haha
07:33 <Lucifer_arma> so we buried it, then went through the same thing with a second betta
07:34 <Lucifer_arma> that one I got to the tank before it filled up with algae (because a little algae isn't disaster) and moved it in time, when my daughter failed to carry through on her promise to turn the fucking light off
07:34 <GodTodd> kids? breaking promises? what's the world coming to?
07:34 <Lucifer_arma> then for two weeks I cleaned it weekly, doing it the "right way", where you only change 20% of the water at atime, warm it up before putting it in there, etc
07:34 <GodTodd> yep
07:34 <Lucifer_arma> and this fish really rallied, but wasn't in as bad a shape as the other
07:35 <Lucifer_arma> so my wife figured it's healthy and out of danger, cleans both tanks, and kills both fish
07:35 <GodTodd> haha
07:35 <Lucifer_arma> she cleaned it by taking the fish out, sticking them in little bowls (with untreated cold water), cleaning the rocks and shit, and putting new water in
07:35 <GodTodd> personally, i will never have a fish tank without putting a pleco in it...cuts down on cleaning
07:36 <Lucifer_arma> I just shut up for a couple of days, my wife didn't want to hear me bitch at her over it, and the kids didn't need to hear me say she'd murdered their fish
07:36 <Lucifer_arma> pleco is that snail that eats algae?
07:36 <GodTodd> it's a catfish cousin that eats algae
07:36 <Lucifer_arma> aha
07:36 <GodTodd> little sucker fish that feeds on bottom
07:36 <Lucifer_arma> bettas eat algae too, that's why a little bit isn't such a big deal
07:37 <Lucifer_arma> but enough algae and the fish gets a little coat of algae on it and can't move, so it basically wears itself to death trying
07:37 <GodTodd> yep
07:37 <GodTodd> that and it can get infected if/when it scrapes itself on rocks and shit
07:38 <Lucifer_arma> right
07:38 <Lucifer_arma> and it doesn't take much, really
07:38 <GodTodd> nope
07:38 <Lucifer_arma> they're just little tiny fish
07:38 <GodTodd> that's why learning how to clean the tank is the most important thing :)
07:38 <Lucifer_arma> hell, my son's fish was almost big enough to eat when my wife brutalized it
07:38 <GodTodd> how to clean it "right"*
07:39 <GodTodd> i might try a little fish tank again sometime
07:39 <Lucifer_arma> man, it was really sad, actually
07:39 <GodTodd> i like fish
07:39 <Lucifer_arma> he had taken really good care of it, always reminded us to feed the fish and stuff
07:39 <Lucifer_arma> he played with it, didn't stick his hands in there, didn't tap the glass or anything
07:39 <GodTodd> didn't flush it...
07:39 <GodTodd> heh
07:40 <Lucifer_arma> it had outlived his sister's fish, and it was such a beautiful fish
07:40 <Lucifer_arma> I think he resented my wife killing the fish, and there's no mistaking it when they both died right after she cleaned both tanks
07:40 <Lucifer_arma> so afterwards he said he didn't want another fish :(
07:41 <GodTodd> yeah...but the whole point of kids having pets is enjoyment with a valuable death lesson at the end
07:41 <Lucifer_arma> valuable "natural" death at the end
07:41 <Lucifer_arma> or "hit by a car" death
07:41 <Lucifer_arma> not "cleaned the tank" death
07:41 <Bougo> a fish hit by a car?
07:41 <GodTodd> well...natural is subjective
07:41 <Lucifer_arma> old age is definitely the preferred way for a pet to go
07:42 <Lucifer_arma> Bougo: yeah, why not? We get thunderstorms that occasionally drop trout on us
07:42 <GodTodd> i had a 4 year old cat drop dead one day...still not real sure what killed him
07:42 <Bougo> heh, i was 7 when i got a common goldfish
07:42 <Bougo> now i'm almost 17 and he/she's still alive
07:42 <Lucifer_arma> I killed my old landlady's cat, but she blamed it on herself
07:42 <GodTodd> i've buried fish, hamsters, dogs, cats
07:42 <Lucifer_arma> she had a radiator leak, but the night the cat died was the night that I drained my radiator into the parkin lot taking the head off my car
07:42 <xfroggy> killer...
07:42 <Bougo> oh yea, i've heard of those storms, it looks so unreal xD
07:43 <GodTodd> i've had birds die too
07:43 <xfroggy> I never got to burry a pet yet :(
07:43 <Lucifer_arma> Bougo: it's quite entertaining to drive down the road and see a fair-sized puddle with a fish bouncing around in it and knowing the closest creek is 3-5 miles away
07:43 <GodTodd> i've seen a lot of animals die :/
07:43 <Lucifer_arma> my neighbor ran over her cat a few months back
07:43 <Lucifer_arma> this was after she ran over her dog
07:44 <Lucifer_arma> so now she honks the horn twice before backing out :)
07:44 <GodTodd> she needs to quit driving
07:44 <GodTodd> heh
07:44 <Lucifer_arma> well, they lay under the car
07:44 <Lucifer_arma> so they got this new dog, right? from the humane society
07:44 <GodTodd> heh...my dogs are wimps...they consider 10 minutes outside "too long"
07:44 <Lucifer_arma> they always pick dogs on death row
07:44 <Bougo> haha GodTodd
07:44 <Lucifer_arma> they wanted a little dog, so they bring home this little dog
07:45 <Lucifer_arma> so i get home and say "Hey, it's a puppy!"
07:45 <Lucifer_arma> and the neighbor's kid says "no, he's full grown"
07:45 <Bougo> !
07:45 <Lucifer_arma> so I get skeptical, because it is a puppy
07:45 <Lucifer_arma> a few months later the dog's fucking huge!!
07:45 <GodTodd> chihuahua or what?
07:45 <GodTodd> ah
07:45 <Lucifer_arma> and he keeps gettin out
07:45 <Bougo> haha
07:45 <GodTodd> nope
07:45 <Bougo> man, how can a common goldfish live 10 years
07:45 <Lucifer_arma> so I just smile now. "Full grown, heh"
07:46 <GodTodd> i'm a fan of death row dogs
07:46 <Lucifer_arma> I laugh whenever they chase the dog
07:46 <GodTodd> our labrachow was one
07:46 <Bougo> omg
07:46 <Lucifer_arma> it's cool they got him off death row, and he's a cool dog, it's just funny how far off their expectations were
07:46 <Bougo> goldfishes can live twenty years...
07:46 <Lucifer_arma> Bougo: yep, he'll be watching you screw your first wife

07:47 <GodTodd> he was 2-3 years old...much too young to die just because the owner didn't want him
07:47 <Bougo> he's half silver half "gold"
07:47 <Lucifer_arma> yeah, no kidding
07:47 <GodTodd> he was officially an "owner surrender"
07:48 <GodTodd> means "i don't want him, you guys take him"
07:48 <GodTodd> :/
07:48 <Bougo> i had two fishes, the second one died because of pollen i think
07:48 <Lucifer_arma> I sometimes wish we could take care of a larger pet, but a) it's against our lease, and b) pets are freaking expensive! Not the kind of expense a family with college kid parents and three kids can take on
07:48 <Lucifer_arma> they should make the owner that's surrendering do the killing
07:48 <Bougo> there were flowers above the tank
07:48 <Bougo> err aquarium*

07:49 <Lucifer_arma> it's not just that, then there's shots, vet visits, and all the infrastructure you need to take care of the guy (like a fence)
07:50 <GodTodd> yeah
07:50 <GodTodd> we have a chainlink fence that karen got for free
07:50 <Lucifer_arma> and we're not keeping a big dog indoors all the time, and I don't know that I'd keep a little dog indoors all the time
07:50 <Lucifer_arma> they'd have to be armed so they can spend time socializing with the neighbors :)
07:50 <GodTodd> our dogs insist on being inside all the time
07:50 <Lucifer_arma> I'd argue with them over that
07:50 <Lucifer_arma> got no problems bringing them in for severe weather, and providing for them for less severe weather
07:51 <Lucifer_arma> and bringing them in for fun, and so they can spend time with us, etc.
07:51 <GodTodd> well...thing is...they're so territorial that they're our security system
07:51 <GodTodd> no burgler would make it out alive
07:51 <Lucifer_arma> never had a dog like that, personally. We always had dogs that would treat any intruder like he was their best friend :/
07:51 <GodTodd> heh
07:51 <Lucifer_arma> as long as he didn't bring a dog with him, that is
07:52 <GodTodd> we have to acclimate them to new people
07:52 <Lucifer_arma> and since moving out of my parents' house, I haven't had any dogs. We had a couple of cats for awhile, but we had to give those away
07:52 <GodTodd> i had to go slow with tipsy when i moved in because chows are very loyal to one owner
07:52 <Lucifer_arma> during my wife's hardcore psycho phase
07:52 <Lucifer_arma> the cats were indoor cats because we didn't want to get them fixed
07:53 <Lucifer_arma> so when we gave them away, the poor sucker that got them had to get them fixed because he had a house full of cats
07:53 <GodTodd> heh
07:53 <GodTodd> i'm not looking forward to tipsy "leaving"...she's over ten now....probably 5-7 more years :/
07:53 <Lucifer_arma> oh hey, did I tell you about the little tournament they sprung on us in fencing last night?
07:53 <GodTodd> i scrolled and saw...yeah :)
07:54 <Lucifer_arma> ah, ok. :)
07:54 <Lucifer_arma> I have a suspicion they're going to use it to seed a knockout tournament, even though they said they wouldn't
07:54 <Lucifer_arma> so now I'm trying to do the Rocky Montage :)
07:54 <GodTodd> heh...instructors/coaches always lie like that so i'd count on it :)
07:55 <Lucifer_arma> and man, I was so close to first place, but being in second place means when the knockout starts, I'll be against either #5 from my pool, or #2 from the other pool
07:55 <Lucifer_arma> #5 in my pool is Karl, and he was one of the bouts I lost last night
07:55 <Lucifer_arma> #2 in the other pool is someone really freaking good
07:55 <GodTodd> heh
07:56 <GodTodd> better get to practicing :P
07:56 <Lucifer_arma> so either way I'll have my work cut out for me
07:56 <Lucifer_arma> well, I'm apparently vulnerable to feint-disengage and attacks in 7
07:56 <Lucifer_arma> 7 being below the guard, inside the blade, essentially groin shots
07:56 <Lucifer_arma> but you can legitimately attack in 7 and hit the belly
07:57 <Lucifer_arma> but haha, I did a capo ferro move on this chick. She kept attacking in 6, which is outside the blade, above the guard
07:57 <Lucifer_arma> so it's an attack on the upper-right torso
07:57 <Lucifer_arma> she'd do the same thing every time. "Fence!" *walks up* *shows me her foil* *attacks in 6*
07:57 <Lucifer_arma> I got three points off her doing exactly the same counter
07:58 <Lucifer_arma> a little circle parry that ended in a thrust, because Capo Ferro says every time you parry, you should attack at the same time
07:58 <Lucifer_arma> and the thrust hit right between her tits every time
07:58 <GodTodd> i can see that, move the blade with a circle parry and end up in a thrust position
07:58 <Lucifer_arma> yeah, not only that but you end up with their blade stuck way the hell out in 6
07:59 <GodTodd> yep
07:59 <GodTodd> you're in perfect position and they're caught out of position
07:59 <Lucifer_arma> the same move on her companion resulted in the guards of the two foils hitting
07:59 <Lucifer_arma> but that girl actually retreated when she saw it coming
08:00 <GodTodd> heh
08:00 <Lucifer_arma> so I spent today practicing the two parries that cover 7, one of which also deals with feint-disengages
08:00 <Lucifer_arma> they're both big circle parries, so I'm trying to get them as fast as I can
08:00 <Lucifer_arma> got my son to grab a kite dowel and attack me in seven for drilling :)
08:01 <GodTodd> heh
08:02 <Lucifer_arma> I've gotten so used to people only attacking in 6 that it seems like my whole left side is weak :(
08:02 <Lucifer_arma> bad time to spring a tourney on me, I thought we were going to have another week of drills and I was intending to drill that side
08:03 <GodTodd> heh

I was using the current game clock time, but I should be using the "current simulation time" rather. Sometime the game goes back in time to re-evaluate events and re-simulate them.
