14:33 <Lucifer_arma> what's Nm3 ?
14:33 <Lucifer_arma> I'm reading that as Newton-meter cubed, which doesn't make sense to me
14:33 <Lucifer_arma> it's measuring flow of hydrogen

19:19 <Lucifer_arma> I was just making fun of that other guy...
19:19 <Lucifer_arma> don't know why he put faz
19:21 <madmax|pt> 'faz' means 'do' in portuguese
19:21 <madmax|pt> i said that to him
19:21 <madmax|pt> so, that was a copy-paste mistake
19:21 <madmax|pt> of course without the pass
19:25 <Lucifer_arma> quick question, what rhymes with hamburguesa?
19:26 <Lucifer_arma> (portuguesa) <--- er, um
19:26 <madmax|pt> yeah, that exists
19:27 <mkzelda> holy crap when did amarok become so badass
19:27 <mkzelda> i havent used it in a year or two and it wasnt very appealing
19:27 <Lucifer_arma> at the risk of sounding like Luke-Jr , amarok's a resource hog
19:28 <mkzelda> it uses 2.8% cpu and 28% ram, ya that is a lot of ram
19:28 <mkzelda> but i have 2g so i never max it out
19:28 <Lucifer_arma> holy shit, I pressed snooze 16 times on thursday
19:29 <Lucifer_arma> I found amarok really disrupted arma, which is why I don't use it
19:29 <mkzelda> ill try that
19:29 <mkzelda> im just blown away by it automatically fetching the album art and lyrics and wiki info on the artists
19:29 <Lucifer_arma> that's neat stuff
19:30 <mkzelda> its also aesthetically pleasing
19:30 <mkzelda> doesnt bother arma for me
19:31 <Lucifer_arma> it might have been some setting I had, or something or other. I wound up going to xmms and then writing the media player that's in arma, all because amarok couldn't slice my mustard
19:31 <Lucifer_arma> now I'm trying to read code I wrote years ago and try to decipher it
19:32 <mkzelda> heh
19:32 <mkzelda> i have a number of mp3s that crash your arma player
19:33 <mkzelda> i cant figure out why, its not a cbr vs vbr issue
19:33 <mkzelda> thought maybe id3tag v2 might have been it but that isnt it either
19:34 <mkzelda> but definitely, the same mp3s will crash it every time
19:35 <Lucifer_arma> it's because smpeg is the world's shittiest mp3 library
19:35 <Lucifer_arma> I think it was written by fraunhoffer themselves
19:35 * Lucifer_arma has a few mp3s that crash it too
19:37 <mkzelda> Lucifer_arma, help me remember the name of 2 kde apps... one goes in systray and lets you adjust screen res/refresh rates (xrandr)
19:37 <mkzelda> one takes screenshots
19:37 <Lucifer_arma> ksnapshot is the second one
19:37 <Lucifer_arma> I don't know the first
19:38 <mkzelda> i use the gentoo modular kde so i dont have the ~350 packages
19:38 <mkzelda> i use the required 120ish and about 40 more
19:38 <Lucifer_arma> I never change my screen resolution, so I wouldn't even know if I have that systray app
19:39 <Lucifer_arma> I finally started working on my own desktop environment, thouh
19:39 <mkzelda> i didnt use to until i started using xinerama again
19:39 <mkzelda> ya i saw you talking about it
19:39 <mkzelda> i force single monitor mode for fullscreen games
19:39 <Lucifer_arma> last time I screwed with xinerama, arma went fullscreen on only one monitor and I couldn't get it to do it on two
19:39 <Lucifer_arma> um, that was using two video cards though
19:40 <mkzelda> but when it returns from some games it gets stuck in single monitor and I have to go into the kde resolution control center
19:40 <mkzelda> i used to use a matrox g450 for dual head and it behaved differently from this nvidia twinview
19:40 * Lucifer_arma wonders if his laptop will give him two separate and distinct monitors
19:40 <Lucifer_arma> *screens
19:40 <mkzelda> it can
19:41 <mkzelda> depends on the card's drivers, but i've done that w/ a few laptops
19:41 <Lucifer_arma> nvidia
19:41 <mkzelda> more than likely yes

19:56 <z-man> oh, wait, that's probably just firefox
19:57 <DrJoeTron> i was about to say

19:58 <madmax|pt> z-man: could you "fix" the colors/name-team-after-player in Z-Man's Tournament Fortress?
19:59 <madmax|pt> they aren't needed for tournament matches... and they get annoying sometimes... I think *someone* else agrees.
19:59 <Lucifer_arma> I don't agree.
19:59 <Lucifer_arma> heh
19:59 * Lucifer_arma hasn't played arma since july or so
19:59 <mkzelda> i do
20:00 <Lucifer_arma> why do we celebrate Columbus Day but not Henry the Navigator Day?
20:00 * Lucifer_arma thinks it's absurd we celebrate the bumblings of an italian fool
20:00 * madmax|pt agrees on that
20:01 <madmax|pt> heh, the Henry one
20:02 <Lucifer_arma> I guess it's kinda like Arabs telling the western world we should thank them for giving us algebra which they in turn got from India, where it was actually invented
20:02 <z-man> Well, but the arabs kept it from being forgotten
20:02 <Lucifer_arma> so they're the ones who invented math teachers that make you memorize hundreds of formulas?
20:02 <madmax|pt> (after all Henry was portuguese...)
20:03 <DrJoeTron> yeah
20:03 <Lucifer_arma> and we should thank them for *that* ?
20:03 <DrJoeTron> but in that way
20:03 <DrJoeTron> the arab's were just the messengers
20:03 <z-man> about the forum, firefox gives me a fishy popup with a master security manager password or something. Probably just for the stored passwords :)
20:03 <z-man> sure, algebra rules.
20:03 <Lucifer_arma> did you just finally upgrade firefox from a really old version?
20:03 <z-man> err, I don't really know. Gentoo sometimes does this.
20:03 <Lucifer_arma> or did your cookie finally expire? I haven't seen that popup on the forums in a long time, usually only after the server it's on gets restarted
20:04 <z-man> Plus, it appears I forgot my master password. darn.
20:05 <Lucifer_arma> wait a minute, since when did firefox get a master security manager?
20:05 <z-man> the firefox one, not the forum.
20:05 <Lucifer_arma> right. Is it like KWallet?
20:05 <z-man> I think so
20:05 <Lucifer_arma> I asked my wife for a plugin hybrid option and she comes back with remote keyless entry and power windows and crap
20:06 <Lucifer_arma> aabout firefox, I don't have a master security password prompt at all, so you must have recently updated?
20:06 <Lucifer_arma> or at least more recently than I have (a couple of months now)
20:06 <z-man> I updated my whole system yesterday, dunno whether firefox was in the packet
20:06 <Lucifer_arma> maybe you don't even have a master password, then?
20:07 <z-man> maybe
20:07 <Lucifer_arma> aha, nvm, my version has it, it's just disabled
20:08 <z-man> which sucks, because there seems to be no way to remove the password without knowing it
20:08 <Lucifer_arma> because I don't really want 3 password prompts to use my computer
20:08 <Lucifer_arma> well, you know, konqueror is turning into a pretty nice browser :)
20:08 <z-man> the prompt only comes up when a password is retrieved from the database, and only once per session, I think
20:08 <Lucifer_arma> (even though it eats memory like there's no tomorrow on a big window, and I like big windows)
20:09 <Lucifer_arma> yeah, but I have a password to login, then a KWallet prompt that already annoys me. A firefox prompt would just annoy me more
20:09 <Lucifer_arma> if the point of a password manager is to not have to deal with password prompts.....
20:09 <z-man> in a perfect world, firefox could be tuned to use kwallet.
20:09 <z-man> semi-perfect world, of course :)
20:10 <z-man> don't you have a ssh-key prompt?
20:10 <Lucifer_arma> well, I could always go back to Windows where I don't have to remember my passwords because there are thousands of hackers that have already gotten them for me
20:10 <Lucifer_arma> no, I use an evil empty passphrase
20:11 <Lucifer_arma> my computer blindly trusts whoever's sitting in front of it, and when I get my desktop environment ready for production use, that trust will be well-placed
20:11 <Lucifer_arma> because nobody else will be able to use the damn thing :)
20:11 <Lucifer_arma> hey, you saw that the xprizecup will have a nice webcast, right?
20:11 * Lucifer_arma has a growing suspicion he's the only person in the whole world that cares about teh xprizecup :/
20:12 <madmax|pt> well, you talk about it a lot
20:12 * madmax|pt doesn't know what xprizecup is
20:13 <z-man> I think the space elevator contest could be fun.
20:13 * madmax|pt is finding out
20:13 <z-man> for the rocket things, probably not much to see in a webcast.
20:14 <z-man> and yeah, I'm only mildly interested :)
20:14 * z-man is off for dinner
20:15 <madmax|pt> hmm, sounds nice
20:20 * Lucifer_arma watched the ansari xprize coverage on a webcast and saw lots of good stuff
20:22 <Lucifer_arma> toyota's website is The Suck
20:52 <mkzelda> chicken noodle soup wit a soda on da side
20:57 * wrtlprnft rarely sees sites of big companies that don't suck
21:01 <Lucifer_arma> it's all flash-based and some of the menus get stuck behind fancy multimedia presentations
21:01 <Lucifer_arma> and instead of lots of good, legible text I get stuck with tv advertisements and pdfs of product brochures
21:02 <Lucifer_arma> but hey, they're the top dog in the car business right now, maybe they know something I don't
21:02 <wrtlprnft> well, some companies think they can just put their TV ads and brochures online and that's basically it
21:02 <Lucifer_arma> yep, and toyota's one of them
21:03 <Lucifer_arma> I think I just opened a can of worms and I'm not happy to realize that

• Website was created by nelg
• Design:
» Layout is loosely based on an old design by Durf.
» Icons on the tools page were originally by Royce, new icons added will try to follow some of the design language.
» Various other icon selections include icons from Crystal, crystalsvg, oxygen, and breeze icon themes.
» Other icons: fontawesome

is a site that has tools, maps, and other various items. It orignally only existed as a server control panel, but I slowly began adding stuff such as a homepage and tools.

This is an LLM-free zone. In general, I am unwilling to use (fight with) any form of "GenAI" to write code for me. So, for the forseeable future, everything on this site will continue to be written by a very silly goose (wait that's me honk honk) with some parts written by other humans as well (silly hu-mon) rather than any plausible-series-of-words token-eating machine. Even my libraries are out of date, and suddenly that's a good thing!
(Although the style has changed several times and content has been added and changed, the base of this site has barely been updated since 2015. But it Ain't Broke!)
This site is also occasionally tested with older browsers, but compatibility is not guarenteed. Although, if you have an old obscure browser and something isn't working that previously did, I guess you can tell me (nelg) about it...
